    On Thursday, September 12, the New York Post reported, citing a senior regional official, that Oman has rejected the Islamic Republic's proposal to jointly charge commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz for services.

    The official stated that Muscat has not even agreed to voluntarily collect fees for environmental and security services from the ships.

    An American official also told the New York Post that the terms of the proposed agreement between the Islamic Republic and Oman for revenue sharing have not been finalized.

    These remarks come as Hossein Mohibi, a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guards, had previously announced that Tehran and Muscat had reached an agreement on this matter.

    Reuters reported on July 29 that Oman had presented a plan, supported by Gulf countries, to the Islamic Republic, under which the management of the Strait of Hormuz would be conducted regionally, and shipping companies could voluntarily pay amounts to cover navigation, environmental protection, and search and rescue operations. Oman had previously opposed mandatory fees from vessels passing through this waterway.
