The European Union and several countries, including Canada, the UK, and Australia, in a joint statement, condemned in the strongest terms the continued executions of protesters in Iran and the repression of those who have protested for justice and human dignity, calling for an immediate halt to executions and the release of all detainees from the protests.

In the statement released on Wednesday, August 21, it was stated that the use of the death penalty to silence opponents, instill fear in communities, and punish individuals exercising their fundamental rights is in no way justifiable.

The signatory countries emphasized that the people of Iran must be able to exercise their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly without fear, and urged the Islamic Republic to immediately end the use of the death penalty and release all individuals who have been arbitrarily detained.

France, Canada, Albania, Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and the UK are among the signatories of this statement. The High Representative of the European Union has also joined this statement.

The statement continues: "The people of Iran must be free to exercise their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly without fear."

The signatory countries also urged the Islamic Republic to listen to the voices of the Iranian people who are calling for change and to take practical measures to ensure respect for human rights.

Jean-Noël Barrot, the French Foreign Minister, also stated in a post on social media platform X that seven months after the "widespread atrocities" against the Iranian people who took to the streets for justice and human dignity, the Iranian government continues to "spill the blood" of the people by increasing executions.

Barrot described this repression as "unacceptable and inhumane" and called for accountability for those responsible and the release of political prisoners. He also emphasized that the people of Iran must be able to freely determine their future and that their fundamental rights must be respected.

در ادامه بیانیه آمده است: «مردم ایران باید آزاد باشند تا حقوق خود برای آزادی بیان و آزادی تجمع مسالمت‌آمیز را بدون ترس اعمال کنند.»

کشورهای امضاکننده همچنین از جمهوری اسلامی خواستند صدای مردم ایران را که خواهان تغییر هستند بشنود و برای تضمین رعایت حقوق بشر، اقدامات عملی انجام دهد.

ژان نوئل بارو، وزیر خارجه فرانسه، نیز با انتشار این بیانیه در شبکه اجتماعی ایکس نوشت که هفت ماه پس از «جنایت‌های گسترده» علیه مردم ایران که برای عدالت و کرامت انسانی به خیابان‌ها آمده بودند، حکومت ایران با افزایش اعدام‌ها به «ریختن خون» مردم ادامه می‌دهد.

بارو این سرکوب را «غیرقابل‌تحمل و غیرانسانی» خواند و خواستار پاسخگو شدن عاملان آن و آزادی زندانیان سیاسی شد. او همچنین تاکید کرد مردم ایران باید بتوانند آزادانه آینده خود را تعیین کنند و حقوق بنیادین آنان محترم شمرده شود.

Iraj has passed away; the Colonel who was the "Champion of Song" in Iran

Hossein Khajeh Amiri, the renowned singer of Iranian music known by his artistic name Iraj, passed away today, Wednesday, August 21, at the age of 94.

His passing has revived a wave of memories from the golden era of music and cinema before the Islamic Revolution of 1979, especially among listeners of radio programs and the multitude of spectators who saw and heard the songs emanating from Iraj's heart through the lips of stars from that time.

The singing officer who compelled Hassan Kassai, the legend of the ney, to call him the "Champion of Song," and whose voice was considered by Mohammad Reza Shajarian, the King of Song in Iran, as "the measure and standard for assessing the quality of voice in the history of our singing."

ایرج درگذشت؛‌ جناب سرهنگی که «پهلوان آواز» ایران بود

حسین خواجه‌امیری، خواننده نامدار موسیقی ایرانی که با نام هنری ایرج شناخته می‌شد، امروز چهارشنبه ۲۱ مرداد ماه در ۹۴ سالگی درگذشت.

درگذشت او موجی از خاطرات دوران طلایی موسیقی و سینمای قبل از انقلاب اسلامی ۱۳۵۷ را زنده کرده است، به ویژه در نزد شنوندگان برنامه‌های رادیویی و یا انبوه تماشاگرانی که آواز برخاسته از سینه ایرج را از لبان ستارگان فیلم‌های آن موقع می‌دیدند و می‌شنیدند.

افسرآوازخوانی که حسن کسایی، اسطوره نی را واداشت «پهلوان آواز» خطابش کند و صدایش برای محمدرضا شجریان، خسرو آواز ایران، «متر و معیار سنجش کیفیت صدا در تاریخ آوازخوانی ما» باشد.

The oil pollution observed on the southern shores of Qeshm Island has spread to the mangrove forests in the village of "Naqasheh."

IRNA news agency reported on Wednesday, August 21, that part of the oil slicks has entered the area of these forests, and monitoring and cleanup operations have begun to prevent further spread of the pollution.

Despite two days having passed since the report of this pollution, the head of the Natural Resources and Watershed Management Department of Qeshm Island has postponed the precise source of the oil slicks to "expert assessments and the summary of reports from responsible agencies."

The mangrove forests are considered sensitive coastal ecosystems of Qeshm and play an important role in preserving biodiversity, coastal stability, and the habitat and reproduction of various aquatic species and birds. The Hormozgan coasts also faced widespread oil pollution this spring. The director general of the Environmental Protection Agency of Hormozgan announced on May 1 that the pollution at that time was caused by an attack on the Lavan oil refinery, and oil materials had reached various points along the province's shores, including Qeshm, Larak, Hengam, and Hormoz.

These pads are typically made from synthetic fibers like polypropylene and absorb oil and grease while taking in less water. Absorbent pads can quickly collect oil, preventing the spread of slicks on the water and the pollution from reaching fish, turtles, seabirds, and corals, thus reducing damage to shores and docks. However, absorbent pads alone are not sufficient to deal with large oil spills and are usually used alongside oil containment booms, skimmers, suction equipment, and other specialized cleanup methods. Saturated pads must also be collected and disposed of properly.

آلودگی نفتی مشاهده‌شده در سواحل جنوبی جزیره قشم به محدوده جنگل‌های حرای روستای «نقاشه» گسترش یافته است.

خبرگزاری ایرنا روز چهارشنبه ۲۱ مرداد گزارش داد بخشی از لکه‌های نفتی وارد محدوده این جنگل‌ها شده و عملیات پایش و پاک‌سازی با هدف جلوگیری از گسترش بیشتر آلودگی آغاز شده است.

به‌رغم گذشت دو روز از گزارش شدن این آلودگی، رئیس اداره منابع طبیعی و آبخیزداری جزیره قشم اعلام منشأ دقیق ورود لکه‌های نفتی را به «بررسی‌های کارشناسی و جمع‌بندی گزارش دستگاه‌های مسئول» موکول کرد.

جنگل‌های حرا از زیست‌بوم‌های حساس ساحلی قشم به شمار می‌روند و نقش مهمی در حفظ تنوع زیستی، پایداری سواحل و زیست و تکثیر گونه‌های مختلف آبزی و پرندگان دارند.
سواحل هرمزگان در بهار امسال نیز با آلودگی گستردهٔ نفتی روبه‌رو شده بود. مدیرکل حفاظت محیط زیست هرمزگان در ۱۲ اردیبهشت اعلام کرده بود آلودگی آن زمان در پی حمله به پالایشگاه نفت لاوان ایجاد شده و مواد نفتی به نقاط مختلف سواحل استان، از جمله قشم، لارک، هنگام و هرمز رسیده بود.

An American official told the Wall Street Journal that Israel had provided the Trump administration with information regarding a threat to the presidential aircraft; information that included the possibility of using shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles to target Air Force One.

Yossi Cohen, the former head of Mossad, stated that agents from this organization had visited the Fordow uranium enrichment facilities several times in the past to gather more information about this nuclear center.

According to the Times of Israel, Cohen said on Tuesday, August 20, 1405 (August 10, 2026), at the "Jalil Forum" in Safed: "We have visited the Fordow nuclear site multiple times to understand this site." He did not provide further details about the timing of these visits or which individuals from Mossad were present during them.

He also commented on the U.S. attack on Fordow, saying: "The bombing of it by the Americans was the realization of all my dreams." The Fordow facility, along with the nuclear centers in Isfahan and Natanz, was severely damaged during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June 2025.

Previous reports indicated that about 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium stored at this facility were buried under the rubble. However, Israel believes that Iran transferred part of this uranium stockpile to the "Koh-e Peak-X" site after the war.

Cohen also stated that uranium enriched to 60 percent is still far from being suitable for bomb-making. This statement contrasts with the assessments of some nuclear experts. David Albright, a nuclear expert, previously stated that Iran's 60 percent enriched uranium could be enriched to the level required for nuclear weapons within weeks or even days if Tehran decides to build a weapon.

Cohen had previously spoken publicly about Mossad's activities against Iran's nuclear program. Just days after his term as head of Mossad ended in 2021, he provided details of the organization's operations against Iran in a rare interview with Israeli television.

In that interview, he discussed the explosion at the underground centrifuge facilities in Natanz and provided details about the 2018 Mossad operation to steal Iran's nuclear archive from a warehouse in Tehran. Cohen also mentioned that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a senior Iranian nuclear scientist who was later assassinated, had been on Mossad's target list for years.

In the documentary program "Ouda," hosted by Ilana Dayan on Channel 12 in Israel, Cohen also stated that he has close familiarity with various Iranian nuclear facilities. He mentioned that if given the opportunity, he would take Dayan to the underground section of Natanz, where, according to him, Iran's centrifuges were operating.

A court in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on Tuesday, August 20, sentenced former President Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia.

Judge Fakhr al-Din al-Aryan announced on Tuesday that Assad was found guilty of charges including "premeditated murder, intentional killing of more than one person, premeditated murder of children under 15, torture, torture leading to death, and repeated deprivation of liberty"; charges that the court classified as "crimes against humanity and war crimes."

The court also sentenced six former military and security officials to death in absentia, among whom is Maher al-Assad, Bashar al-Assad's brother and commander of the Fourth Division of the Syrian Army. Maher al-Assad also fled Syria after the fall of his brother's regime.

The Damascus Criminal Court began judicial proceedings against Assad and several other former officials, some of whom were present in court while others were tried in absentia, since last April. These individuals have been accused of committing widespread crimes during the civil war; a war that began in 2011 with the brutal suppression of peaceful protests against Assad's regime.

During this war, more than 500,000 people were killed, millions were displaced, and tens of thousands went missing; many of them were transferred to the former regime's prisons.

The protests in Syria began in March 2011 in Daraa after 15 students were arrested for writing anti-government slogans on the walls of the city. Residents of Daraa reported that these students were tortured, leading to protests for their release, which were violently suppressed. Security forces used live ammunition to disperse the protesters, and the protests spread to other provinces of Syria.

The Assad family has ruled Syria for over five decades. Bashar al-Assad became president in 2000 after the death of his father, Hafez al-Assad.

فخرالدین العریان، قاضی دادگاه دمشق، روز سه‌شنبه اعلام کرد اسد به اتهام‌هایی از جمله «قتل عمد، کشتار عمدی بیش از یک نفر، قتل عمد کودکان زیر ۱۵ سال، شکنجه، شکنجه منجر به مرگ و سلب آزادی به دفعات» مجرم شناخته شده است؛ اتهام‌هایی که دادگاه آنها را «جنایت علیه بشریت و جنایت جنگی» طبقه‌بندی کرد.

دادگاه همچنین شش مقام نظامی و امنیتی سابق را به صورت غیابی به اعدام محکوم کرد که در میان آنها ماهر اسد، برادر بشار اسد و فرمانده لشکر چهارم ارتش سوریه، نیز قرار دارد. ماهر اسد نیز پس از سقوط حکومت برادرش از سوریه گریخت.

دادگاه کیفری دمشق از فروردین گذشته روند رسیدگی قضایی به پرونده اسد و شماری دیگر از مقام‌های سابق این کشور را که برخی از آنها در دادگاه حاضر بودند و برخی غیابی محاکمه شدند، آغاز کرد. این افراد به ارتکاب جنایت‌های گسترده در جریان جنگ داخلی متهم شده‌اند؛ جنگی که در سال ۲۰۱۱ با سرکوب شدید اعتراض‌های مسالمت‌آمیز علیه حکومت اسد آغاز شد.

در جریان این جنگ بیش از ۵۰۰ هزار نفر کشته و میلیون‌ها نفر آواره شدند و ده‌ها هزار نفر نیز ناپدید شدند؛ بسیاری از آنها به زندان‌های حکومت سابق منتقل شده بودند.

اعتراض‌های سوریه در مارس ۲۰۱۱ از درعا و پس از آنکه ۱۵ دانش‌آموز به اتهام نوشتن شعارهای ضدحکومتی روی دیوارهای شهر بازداشت شدند، آغاز شد. ساکنان درعا اعلام کردند این دانش‌آموزان شکنجه شدند و در پی آن، اعتراض‌هایی برای آزادی آنها شکل گرفت که با خشونت سرکوب شد.
