Axios reported on Monday, May 3, citing an American official, new details about the passage of two American ships through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, two commercial ships flying the American flag passed through the strait without direct escort but through a "designated defensive area," and Iranian forces did not fire at them.

This American official told Axios that the rules of engagement for American forces in the region have changed, allowing them to respond to immediate threats against ships present in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pruitt said in an interview with Fox News that the U.S. is "reopening" the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that the U.S. military has "full control" of this waterway but emphasized that they will only fire if they are first targeted. This stance, he said, has been adopted to prevent escalation of tensions. source

The public relations office of the Revolutionary Guards stated in a statement: "No commercial or oil tanker has passed through the Strait of Hormuz in recent hours, and the claims of American officials are baseless and completely false."

The statement added that "other maritime movements contrary to the principles announced by the Navy of the Guards will face serious risks, and violating vessels will be stopped with force."

This news comes as the U.S. Central Command in the region, CENTCOM, reports that two guided-missile destroyers have entered the Persian Gulf after passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement from CENTCOM on X, two commercial ships flying the American flag successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz with the support of these destroyers.

On Monday, May 3, the U.S. Central Command, "CENTCOM," firmly rejected claims by Iranian state media that a U.S. destroyer was targeted by two missiles from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. In a message published under the title "Fact-Checking" on its X account, it stated that no U.S. destroyer had been targeted and emphasized that the U.S. Navy supports the "Freedom of Navigation [in the Strait of Hormuz]" and is enforcing a maritime blockade on the ports of the Islamic Republic.

Earlier, the Fars news agency had claimed, citing sources within the IRGC, that a U.S. destroyer was hit by two missiles while passing through the Strait of Hormuz near the port of Jask after ignoring warnings.

CENTCOM announced on Monday evening, May 3, that U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers are currently operating in the Persian Gulf after passing through the Strait of Hormuz and are supporting the "Freedom of Navigation" initiative.

In a post on X, CENTCOM wrote: "U.S. forces are actively working to resume the passage of commercial vessels. As a first step, two commercial ships flying the U.S. flag successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz and continue their journey safely."

The CENTCOM statement was released hours after Iran threatened that the passage of ships without the permission of the IRGC Navy was prohibited.

The Tasnim news agency, close to the IRGC, claimed that "with a firm and swift warning" from the Navy of the Islamic Republic, the "entry" of U.S. destroyers into the Strait of Hormuz was prevented. CENTCOM has rejected this claim.

In another post on X, CENTCOM stated that Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, flew over the regional waters inside and around the Strait of Hormuz in an Apache helicopter on May 2, just before the start of U.S. military support for the "Freedom of Navigation" initiative. According to this post, Cooper met and spoke with U.S. Army soldiers after visiting sailors and Marines on board two U.S. Navy warships patrolling in the Arabian Sea.

The United States Central Command, CENTCOM, announced that American forces will begin supporting the "Freedom Project" from Monday morning, Middle Eastern time, with the aim of restoring freedom of navigation for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
This statement, published on the social media platform X, emphasizes that the mentioned mission is carried out at the direction of the President and will support ships seeking to pass freely through this strategic passage.

CENTCOM highlighted the economic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that about a quarter of the world's maritime oil trade and a significant volume of fuel and fertilizers pass through this route. Brigadier General Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, stated that supporting this defensive mission is essential for regional security and the global economy, while a maritime blockade will also continue.

According to this statement, the U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with the Department of Defense, has initiated a plan to enhance coordination and information sharing with international partners in the field of maritime security. ☄️ Trump: The U.S. effort to free the ships in the Strait of Hormuz will begin on Monday morning.

    Machine translation:
Countries from around the world, almost all of which have no involvement in the Middle Eastern conflict; a conflict that is now openly and violently unfolding before everyone's eyes, have asked the United States if we can help free their ships; ships that are trapped in the Strait of Hormuz, in a situation that has absolutely nothing to do with them. They are merely innocent and neutral observers.

For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these countries that we will safely guide their ships out of these restricted waterways so they can continue their activities freely and properly. I reiterate, these ships belong to regions of the world that are in no way involved in what is currently happening in the Middle East.

I have instructed my representatives to inform them that we will make every effort to safely extract the ships and their crews from the strait. In all cases, they have stated that they will not return until this area is safe for navigation and other activities.

This process, named "Project Freedom," will begin on Monday morning, Middle Eastern time. I am fully aware that my representatives are having very positive discussions with the country of Iran, and these discussions could lead to a very positive outcome for all.

The relocation of these ships is solely aimed at freeing the people, companies, and countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong; they have become victims of circumstances. This is a humanitarian action by the United States, the Middle Eastern countries, and especially the country of Iran.

Many of these ships are facing shortages of food and other essential items to keep the large crews in healthy and sanitary conditions on board. In my view, this action can have a significant impact in demonstrating goodwill from all those who have been heavily involved in the war in recent months.

If any disruption occurs in this humanitarian process, unfortunately, that disruption must be dealt with decisively.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The government news agency Fars reported on Sunday evening, May 2, that Tehran's 14-point proposal to Washington does not include "a 15-year halt to enrichment or the liberation of the Strait of Hormuz." This report comes as Donald Trump had previously stated that Iran's proposal was "unacceptable." At the same time, Ismail Baqaei, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced on Sunday evening that a new proposal from the American side had been received and stated that Tehran is currently reviewing Washington's new proposal.

Al Jazeera news network reports that it has learned details of Iran's proposal to the U.S. for resuming negotiations and ending the war. Iran and the U.S. have not yet officially responded to this report.

According to Al Jazeera, citing sources, Iran's proposal includes three main phases, with the first phase comprising the following:

▪️ Turning the ceasefire into a complete end to the war within "thirty days"
▪️ Establishing an international body to ensure there is no return to war
▪️ Ending the war across the region and mutual commitments from Iran and the U.S. not to attack each other
▪️ This non-aggression commitment includes Iran's allies in the region as well as Israel
▪️ Gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran taking responsibility for mine clearance and not opposing U.S. assistance in this task
▪️ Gradual lifting of the blockade on Iranian ports in a manner consistent with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the shores of Iran and the end of combat readiness

According to Al Jazeera's sources, in Iran's proposal, nuclear negotiations are deferred to the second phase, which includes the following:

▪️ Complete cessation of uranium enrichment for a maximum of 15 years, after which 3.6% enrichment would be allowed without stockpiling
▪️ Rejection of any dismantling of infrastructure or destruction of Iran's nuclear facilities

Al Jazeera reports that Iran's proposal regarding high-enriched uranium reserves considers options such as sending it abroad or reducing the enrichment level. It also emphasizes the need for a clear mechanism for lifting sanctions in exchange for nuclear actions.

Sources told Al Jazeera that according to Iran's proposal, the lifting of sanctions and gradual release of blocked assets would be determined according to a specific timeline.

In the third phase of the agreement, Tehran proposes to engage in strategic dialogue with Arab countries and the region to establish a security system that encompasses the entire region.

Scott Basset, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, said on Sunday that the United States is "suffocating" the Iranian government through an "economic blockade" that began simultaneously with military operations.

In an interview with Fox News, he referred to his department's initiative to complete the U.S. operation "Epic Fury" against Iran, stating, "This process began with President Trump's March order for maximum pressure, and three weeks ago the President instructed me at the Treasury to initiate 'Economic Fury.'"

Mr. Basset added, "We are suffocating this government, and they are unable to pay their soldiers. This is a real economic blockade, and all branches of the government are involved."

This comes as the U.S. maritime blockade against Iranian ports continues, with the U.S. military reporting that 49 commercial ships have changed course due to the enforcement of this blockade. Meanwhile, negotiations between Iran and the U.S., mediated by Pakistan, are ongoing, and Iran has submitted a new proposal to reach a peace agreement that has met with a lukewarm response from the U.S. President.

In his interview with Fox News, the U.S. Treasury Secretary emphasized that his department is taking economic actions "against anyone who attempts to transfer money to Iran to assist the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps."

He added, "They are a corrupt entity. They have stolen from the Iranian people for years. They have assets abroad. We have identified them. We will continue this work and will preserve these assets for the Iranian people on the other side of this conflict."

On Sunday, the U.S. Treasury, while imposing new sanctions against Tehran, warned shipping companies and shipowners that paying "fees" to Iran for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, regardless of the payment method, would expose them to the risk of U.S. sanctions.
