Donald Trump, the President of the United States, early on Tuesday, February 17, just hours before the second round of negotiations with representatives of the Islamic Republic, stated that he would participate indirectly in the negotiations and added that in his opinion, Tehran "wants to reach an agreement."

Donald Trump, speaking to reporters while returning to Washington on Air Force One, responded to a question about the Geneva negotiations by saying: "I will participate indirectly in these negotiations, and [these negotiations] will be very important. We will see what might happen. I mean, Iran is usually a very tough negotiator. Are they good negotiators or bad? I say they are bad negotiators because we could have reached an agreement instead of sending B-2 bombers to eliminate their nuclear potential. We had to send B-2 bombers. I hope, I hope they will be more reasonable. They want to reach an agreement."

In response to a reporter's question asking, "Have you been told that an agreement is almost impossible?" he replied: "No, I think they want to reach an agreement. I don't think they want the consequences of not reaching an agreement. They want to reach an agreement."

دونالد ترامپ، رئیس جمهوری آمریکا بامداد سه‌شنبه ۲۸ بهمن ماه و ساعاتی پیش از برگزاری دور دوم مذاکرات با نمایندگان جمهوری اسلامی گفت به‌شکل غیرمستقیم در مذاکرات شرکت خواهد کرد و افزود که به نظر او تهران «خواهان رسیدن به توافق است.»

دونالد ترامپ که در حال بازگشت به واشنگتن در هواپیمای ریاست جمهوری با خبرنگاران صحبت می‌کرد، در پاسخ به پرسشی درباره مذاکرات ژنو گفت: «من غیرمستقیم در این مذاکرات شرکت خواهم کرد و [این مذاکرات] بسیار مهم خواهند بود. خواهیم دید چه اتفاقی ممکن است بیفتد. منظورم این است که معمولا ایران مذاکره‌کننده بسیار سرسختی است. آنها مذاکره‌کنندگان خوبی هستند یا بد؟ من می‌گویم آنها مذاکره‌کنندگان بدی هستند زیرا ما می‌توانستیم به جای فرستادن بمب‌افکن‌های بی-۲ برای از بین بردن پتانسیل هسته‌ای آنها، به توافق برسیم. ما مجبور شدیم بمب‌افکن‌های بی-۲ بفرستیم. امیدوارم، امیدوارم که آنها منطقی‌تر باشند. آنها می‌خواهند به توافق برسند.»

رئیس جمهوری آمریکا در پاسخ به پرسش خبرنگار که از او پرسید «آیا به شما گفته شده است که توافق تقریبا غیرممکن است؟»
پاسخ داد: «نه، فکر می‌کنم آنها می‌خواهند به توافق برسند. فکر نمی‌کنم که آنها عواقب عدم توافق را بخواهند. آنها می‌خواهند به توافق برسند.»
