In unexpected remarks, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran claimed that in recent negotiations, the U.S. did not request a complete halt to enrichment at all. While the reality of relations between Tehran and Washington remains shrouded in contradictions and hidden threats, it is not clear to what extent Abbas Araghchi's statements reflect Washington's demands.

On Friday, February 19, Abbas Araghchi stated in an interview with the American network "MSNBC" that in the recent negotiations, "the American side did not raise the request for 'zero enrichment'." He said, "We have not proposed any suspension, and the American side has not requested zero enrichment."

Araghchi's remarks contradict the demands that the Americans have publicly stated so far. The television program host expressed surprise for this reason, but Araghchi explained: "What we are currently discussing is how to ensure that Iran's nuclear program, including enrichment, is peaceful and will remain peaceful forever..."

Donald Trump has repeatedly emphasized that Iran should not be allowed to enrich uranium at any level.

Abbas Araghchi also announced that Iran's draft proposal for an agreement with the U.S. will be prepared within "the next two to three days." He added, "I need to get approval from my superiors, then I will send it to the U.S."

در سخنانی غیرمنتظره، وزیر امور خارجۀ جمهوری اسلامی ایران ادعا کرد که در مذاکرات اخیر، آمریکا اصلاً خواستار توقف کامل غنی‌سازی نشده است. در حالی که واقعیت روابط میان تهران و واشنگتن در پشت پرده‌ای از تناقض‌گویی و تهدید پنهان مانده، به درستی معلوم نیست اظهارات عباس عراقچی تا چه حد منعکس‌کنندۀ خواسته‌های واشنگتن باشد.

روز جمعه اول اسفند، عباس عراقچی در مصاحبه‌ای با شبکۀ آمریکایی «MSNBC»، گفت که در مذاکرات اخیر، «طرف آمریکایی درخواست "غنی‌سازی صفر" را مطرح نکرده است.» او گفت: «ما هیچ تعلیقی پیشنهاد نکرده‌ایم و طرف آمریکایی هم غنی‌سازی صفر را درخواست نکرده است.»

سخنان عراقچی با خواسته‌هایی که آمریکایی‌ها تاکنون به‌طور علنی مطرح کرده‌اند در تناقض است. مجری برنامه تلویزیونی نیز به همین علت اظهار تعجب کرد اما عراقچی توضیح داد: «آنچه اکنون درباره‌اش گفتگو می‌کنیم این است که چگونه اطمینان حاصل شود که برنامه هسته‌ای ایران، از جمله غنی‌سازی، صلح‌آمیز است و برای همیشه صلح‌آمیز باقی خواهد ماند...»

دونالد ترامپ بارها تأکید کرده است که ایران نباید در هیچ سطحی اجازه غنی‌سازی اورانیوم داشته باشد.

عباس عراقچی همچنین اعلام کرد پیش‌نویس پیشنهاد ایران برای توافق با آمریکا طی «دو تا سه روز آینده» آماده می‌شود. او افزود: «من باید تأیید مسئولان بالا دستم را بگیرم، سپس آن را برای آمریکا ارسال خواهم کرد.»
