Axios: The holding of the third round of negotiations depends on Iran presenting a plan to the U.S. within the next 48 hours.

The Axios website reported on Sunday, February 22, citing a senior U.S. official, that if Iran presents a "detailed proposal" for a nuclear agreement to the U.S. within the next 48 hours, U.S. negotiators are prepared to hold another round of talks in Geneva on Friday, March 1.

This senior U.S. official stated that the Trump administration is awaiting Iran's proposal.

U.S. officials have indicated that the current diplomatic effort is likely the last opportunity that the U.S. President will give Iran before launching a large-scale military operation jointly with Israel. Axios noted that this operation could directly target Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic.

According to the report, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's envoys who have both advised him to allow for diplomacy before issuing an attack order, plan to be in Geneva on March 1 if Iran sends a proposal early this week.

A senior U.S. official said, "If Iran submits a draft proposal, the U.S. is ready to meet in Geneva on Friday to begin detailed negotiations and see if we can reach a nuclear agreement or not." This official also confirmed that the Trump administration and Iran might discuss the possibility of reaching a temporary agreement before a comprehensive nuclear deal.

Abbas Araqchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, said on Friday in an interview with MSNBC that Iran will prepare a draft proposal for an agreement to send to the U.S. within the next two to three days.
