According to a report from Axios, intense discussions are taking place among senior layers of the Trump administration regarding how to deal with the Islamic Republic. General Dan Keen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has warned about the consequences of a military campaign and emphasized the need for realism regarding the risks of a prolonged conflict and potential casualties.

While some sources indicate Trump's personal inclination towards a military strike, figures such as Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, and even Vice President JD Vance have called for restraint and giving diplomacy a chance. Kushner and Witkoff believe that time is on America's side and that Trump should first assess the outcomes of Thursday's talks in Geneva with Abbas Araghchi.

Despite the cautious approach of military commanders and some cabinet members, Axios reported, citing its sources, that Trump has only agreed to extend the negotiation period to ensure that all diplomatic avenues reach a dead end. Among senior cabinet ministers, Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, has so far refrained from taking a clear stance and has focused more on issues related to Venezuela and Cuba.
