Jerusalem Post: Behind-the-Scenes Details of the Joint Israel-U.S. Attack on the Islamic Republic

The newspaper Jerusalem Post reported that Israel and the United States launched an operation named "Lion's Roar" against military targets and command centers of the Islamic Republic in Tehran and the western part of the country. The Israeli army stated that the goal of this operation is to weaken threats directed at Israeli territory.

Israeli officials said the first wave of attacks was carried out in a "limited operational window" during the morning hours to maintain tactical surprise. According to them, months of intelligence gathering and operational planning led to the creation of a precise "target bank" that included updated locations of commanders and senior decision-makers. These officials emphasized that Israel and the U.S. had "close coordination" and "full intelligence sharing" throughout this process.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the Israeli army's intelligence agency and Mossad led the intelligence efforts, and the responsibility for targets was geographically divided between Israeli and American forces. Defense officials stated that operational coordination was maintained at various command levels.

One official said, "Each pilot had a name." He noted that specific target packages were prepared for each pilot and flight crew, which included a list of specific facilities and individuals, timing, and mission routes. The first wave also targeted command posts and operation rooms related to Iranian security agencies.

About two hours after the attacks began, Iran targeted U.S. interests in the Persian Gulf, and missiles were also fired toward Israel, triggering warning sirens across the country. This escalation of tension occurred after Donald Trump confirmed U.S. participation in the operation.

Jerusalem Post reported that Israel's air defense systems conducted several interceptions, while the Israeli Air Force began subsequent waves of attacks against ballistic missile launch infrastructure in western Iran; an area where, according to officials, the Islamic Republic had concentrated its launch activities.

The Israeli army has assessed that operations in western Iran will continue in subsequent waves as long as missile fire persists.
