Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, announced hours after the news of the targeting of the Assembly of Experts building in Qom that the building had been evacuated in advance and that the meeting to select the next leader of the Islamic Republic was held "remotely."

Fars claimed that the process of selecting a successor to Ali Khamenei has continued "in a secure environment" and that "the final stages are underway." According to Fars, the new leader of the Islamic Republic may be announced "soon."

خبرگزاری فارس، وابسته به سپاه پاسداران، ساعاتی پس از انتشار خبر هدف قرار گرفتن ساختمان مجلس خبرگان در قم، اعلام کرد که این ساختمان از پیش خالی شده بوده و جلسه برای انتخاب رهبر بعدی جمهوری اسلامی به صورت «غیرحضوری» برگزار شده بود.

فارس مدعی شد که روند انتخاب جانشین علی خامنه‌ای، «در فضایی امن» ادامه داشته و «مراحل پایانی آن در حال انجام است». به گفته فارس، رهبر جدید جمهوری اسلامی ممکن است «به‌زودی» اعلام شود.
