Ahmad Donyamali, in an interview with Iran's state television, referred to the death of Ali Khamenei, the former leader of the Islamic Republic, in attacks by the U.S. and Israel, stating: "Under no circumstances can we participate in the World Cup." He pointed out regarding the national football team players: "Our children are not safe, and there is fundamentally no condition for participating in these competitions."

Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, mentioned on Tuesday that following the asylum of several players from the Iranian women's national team in Australia, a "similar scenario" might be executed for the men's football team in the World Cup.

He added: "No sane person would agree to send the Iranian national football team to the U.S."

The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, quoted Donald Trump as saying that despite the war in the Middle East, the Iranian football team can still participate in the World Cup in North America. Infantino wrote on Instagram that he met with the U.S. president regarding the upcoming World Cup matches. Mr. Infantino stated: "President Trump emphasized in this conversation that it is clear that the Iranian team can participate in the matches in the U.S."

احمد دنیامالی در گفت‌وگو با تلویزیون حکومتی ایران با اشاره به کشته شدن علی خامنه‌ای، رهبر سابق جمهوری اسلامی، در حملات آمریکا و اسرائیل گفت: «تحت هیچ شرایطی نمی‌توانیم در جام جهانی شرکت کنیم.»
او با اشاره به بازیکنان تیم ملی فوتبال اعلام کرد: «فرزندان ما در امنیت نیستند و اساساً شرایطی برای حضور در این رقابت‌ها وجود ندارد.»

مهدی تاج، رئیس فدراسیون فوتبال ایران، روز سه‌شنبه با اشاره به پناهندگی شماری از بازیکنان تیم ملی زنان ایران در استرالیا گفته بود ممکن است «سناریوی مشابهی» برای تیم فوتبال مردان در جام جهانی اجرا شود.

او افزود: «هیچ عقل سلیمی قبول نخواهد کرد که تیم ملی فوتبال ایران به آمریکا اعزام شود.»

جانی اینفانتینو در اینستاگرام نوشت که با رئیس‌جمهور آمریکا در مورد مسابقات جام جهانی فوتبال آینده ملاقات کرده است.
آقای اینفانتینو گفت: «رئیس‌جمهور ترامپ در این گفت‌و‌گو تاکید کرد که معلوم است که تیم ایران، می‌تواند در مسابقات در آمریکا شرکت کند».
