Britain has announced that it has allowed the United States to use its military bases to carry out attacks against targets in Iran related to the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a decision made at today's ministers' meeting, the scope of U.S. use of these bases has been expanded to now include operations to protect ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Previously, London had only permitted the use of its bases for operations aimed at preventing missile launches that threatened British interests or citizens' lives.

The British Prime Minister's Office, Downing Street, emphasized that despite this decision, Britain will not directly participate in these attacks and that "the principles of the country's approach to the conflict have not changed."

A spokesperson for Downing Street said:
"Ministers agreed that the bases can be used for U.S. defensive operations to target capabilities used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz."

He also added that ministers stressed the "urgent need to de-escalate tensions and quickly reach a solution to end the war."

بریتانیا اعلام کرد که به ایالات متحده اجازه داده است از پایگاه‌های نظامی این کشور برای انجام حملات علیه اهدافی در ایران که به تنگه هرمز مرتبط هستند، استفاده کند.

بر اساس تصمیمی که در نشست امروز وزیران اتخاذ شد، دامنه استفاده آمریکا از این پایگاه‌ها گسترش یافته و اکنون شامل عملیات برای حفاظت از کشتی‌ها در تنگه هرمز نیز می‌شود.

پیش از این، لندن تنها اجازه استفاده از پایگاه‌های خود را برای عملیات با هدف جلوگیری از شلیک موشک‌هایی که منافع یا جان شهروندان بریتانیایی را تهدید می‌کرد، صادر کرده بود.

دفتر نخست‌وزیری بریتانیا، داونینگ استریت، تأکید کرده است که با وجود این تصمیم، بریتانیا به‌طور مستقیم در این حملات مشارکت نخواهد داشت و «اصول رویکرد این کشور در قبال درگیری تغییری نکرده است.»

سخنگوی داونینگ استریت گفت:
«وزیران توافق کردند که پایگاه‌ها می‌توانند برای عملیات دفاعی آمریکا مورد استفاده قرار گیرند تا توانمندی‌هایی که برای حمله به کشتی‌ها در تنگه هرمز استفاده می‌شوند، هدف قرار داده شوند.»

او همچنین افزود که وزیران بر «لزوم کاهش فوری تنش‌ها و دستیابی سریع به راه‌حلی برای پایان جنگ» تأکید کرده‌اند.
