The New York Times, citing unnamed officials from the Islamic Republic, has reported that Kamal Kharrazi, the former foreign minister and former representative of the Islamic Republic at the United Nations, who was recently severely injured in an attack on his hideout, has been overseeing the arrangements for a possible meeting with J.D. Vance, the Vice President of the United States, in recent days.

Kamal Kharrazi is one of the figures of the Islamic Republic who has always remained within the inner circle of power, a trusted advisor to Ali Khamenei, the deceased leader of the Islamic Republic, and a member of the Expediency Discernment Council.

He, who was responsible for the war propaganda headquarters during the Iran-Iraq War, has always played a key role in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic and currently heads the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.

کمال خرازی از جمله چهره‌های جمهوری اسلامی است که همواره در حلقه درونی حاکمیت باقی‌ماند، مشاور و مورد اعتماد علی خامنه‌ای، رهبر کشته شده جمهوری اسلامی و عضو مجمع تشخیص مصلحت نظام است.

او که در زمان جنگ ایران و عراق مسئولیت ستاد تبلیغات جنگ را بر عهده داشت، همواره نقشی کلیدی در سیاست خارجی جمهوری اسلامی ایفا کرده است و ریاست شورای راهبردی روابط خارجی را بر عهده دارد.
