Maryam Akbari Monfared, a political prisoner, has been released from prison after 17 years without even a single day of leave.

Maryam Akbari Monfared, who comes from a family of victims of the mass executions of prisoners in the 1980s, was arrested in 2009; the Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 15 years in prison on charges of "moharebeh (waging war against God) and acting against national security." This 15-year sentence was supposed to end in October 2024 in Semnan prison, but this political prisoner was sentenced to an additional two years in prison for "propaganda against the regime."

According to the regulations of the Prison Organization, prisoners who have served one-third of their sentence can apply for leave. However, Maryam Akbari Monfared was imprisoned for 17 years in Evin, Semnan, and Qarchak prisons and was deprived of leave.

مریم اکبری منفرد، زندانی سیاسی، پس از ۱۷ سال زندان بدون حتی یک روز مرخصی، از زندان آزاد شد.

مریم اکبری منفرد که از خانوادهٔ قربانیان اعدام‌های زندانیان دههٔ ۱۳۶۰ است، سال ۱۳۸۸ بازداشت شد؛ دادگاه انقلاب او را به اتهام «محاربه و اقدام علیه امنیت ملی» به ۱۵ سال زندان محکوم کرد.
قرار بود این حبس ۱۵ ساله، مهر ۱۴۰۳ در زندان سمنان به پایان برسد، اما این زندانی سیاسی در زندان به اتهام «تبلیغ علیه نظام» به دو سال حبس دیگر محکوم شد.

بر اساس آیین‌نامهٔ سازمان زندان‌ها، محکومانی که یک‌سوم دورهٔ حبس‌شان را گذرانده باشند، می‌توانند از مرخصی استفاده کنند. مریم اکبری منفرد، اما ۱۷ سال در زندان‌های اوین، سمنان و قرچک محبوس و محروم از مرخصی بود.
