The President of the United States, in a message released just minutes after the announcement of the start of negotiations between Iran and the U.S. in Islamabad, wrote: "We are now beginning the process of clearing the Strait of Hormuz, as a favor to countries around the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, and many others. Interestingly, they themselves lack the courage or will to do this."

Donald Trump also wrote in another part of his message that the only thing left for the Iranian regime in this region is "the threat that perhaps a ship might hit one of their sea mines, which, of course, all 28 of their mine-laying boats are currently at the bottom of the sea."

رئیس‌جمهور آمریکا در پیامی که دقایقی پس از اعلام شروع مذاکرات ایران و آمریکا در اسلام‌آباد منتشر کرد، نوشت: «ما اکنون در حال آغاز روند پاکسازی تنگه هرمز هستیم، به‌عنوان لطفی به کشورهای سراسر جهان، از جمله چین، ژاپن، کره جنوبی، فرانسه، آلمان و بسیاری دیگر. جالب این‌جاست که آن‌ها خودشان شجاعت یا ارادهٔ انجام این کار را ندارند.»

دونالد ترامپ در بخشی دیگر از پیام خود نوشت تنها چیزی که برای حکومت ایران در این منطقه باقی مانده، «تهدید این است که شاید یک کشتی به یکی از مین‌های دریایی‌شان برخورد کند، که البته همهٔ ۲۸ قایق مین‌گذارشان هم‌اکنون در کف دریا قرار دارد».
