The United States military announced that it has begun the process of "preparing conditions" for the clearance of naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, with two of its ships passing through this strategic passage.

U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, announced on Saturday, April 22, that the ships "USS Frank Peterson" and "USS Michael Murphy" have passed through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a broader mission to ensure the complete clearance of the strait from mines laid by the Revolutionary Guard.

Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, stated: "Today we initiated the process of creating a new passage, and soon we will make this safe route available to the shipping industry to encourage the free flow of trade."

Before CENTCOM's announcement, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, also stated that the U.S. has "sunk all 28 Iranian mine-laying boats" and announced that the U.S. military has begun the process of clearing the Strait of Hormuz.

Axios reporter also quoted a senior U.S. official saying that this action was taken without coordination with Iran and that it is the first time since the start of the war that U.S. ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

ارتش ایالات متحده اعلام کرد روند «فراهم‌سازی شرایط» برای پاکسازی مین‌های دریایی در تنگهٔ هرمز را آغاز کرده و دو ناو این کشور از این گذرگاه راهبردی عبور کرده‌اند.

فرماندهی مرکزی ایالات متحده، سنتکام، روز شنبه ۲۲ فروردین اعلام کرد ناوهای «یواس‌اس فرانک پترسون» و «یواس‌اس مایکل مورفی» در چارچوب مأموریتی گسترده‌تر برای اطمینان از پاکسازی کامل تنگه از مین‌هایی که سپاه پاسداران کار گذاشته است، از تنگهٔ هرمز عبور کرده‌اند.

برد کوپر، فرماندهٔ سنتکام، گفت: «امروز روند ایجاد یک گذرگاه جدید را آغاز کردیم و به‌زودی این مسیر امن را در اختیار صنعت دریانوردی خواهیم گذاشت تا جریان آزاد تجارت تشویق شود.»

پیش از اعلام سنتکام، دونالد ترامپ، رئیس‌جمهور ایالات متحده، نیز با اعلام این‌که آمریکا «هر ۲۸ قایق مین‌گذار ایران» را غرق کرده، خبر داد که ارتش آمریکا روند پاکسازی تنگهٔ هرمز را آغاز کرده است.

خبرنگار اکسیوس نیز به‌نقل از یک مقام ارشد آمریکا نوشت که این اقدام بدون هماهنگی با ایران انجام شده و نخستین بار است که از زمان آغاز جنگ، ناوهای آمریکا از تنگه هرمز عبور می‌کنند.
