Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and head of the Iranian negotiating team in Pakistan, said in his first comment on the matter hours after the announcement of the talks' failure by Donald Trump's deputy: "America understood our logic and principles, and now it is time to decide whether it can gain our trust or not?"
The message stated: "Before the negotiations, I emphasized that we have the necessary goodwill and intention, but due to the experiences of the two previous wars, we do not trust the other side."
Qalibaf also wrote: "We consider diplomacy of power as another method alongside military struggle to realize the rights of the Iranian people."
From the remarks of this high-ranking official of the Islamic Republic, it appears that Tehran does not yet consider the negotiation file with the United States closed.
The Axios news website also quoted "a source familiar with the discussions in Islamabad" as saying that "part of the disagreements was related to Iran's insistence on controlling the Strait of Hormuz and its refusal to give up its enriched uranium reserves."

محمدباقر قالیباف، رئیس مجلس شورای اسلامی و رئیس هیئت مذاکرهکننده ایران در پاکستان، ساعاتی پس از اعلام بینتیجه ماندن این گفتوگوها توسط معاون دونالد ترامپ، در اولین اظهار نظر در این باره گفت: «آمریکا منطق و اصول ما را درک کرد و حالا وقت آن است تا تصمیم گیرد که آیا میتواند اعتماد ما را جلب کند یا نه؟»
در این پیام آمده است: «پیش از مذاکرات تأکید کردم که ما حسن نیت و ارادهٔ لازم را داریم ولی به دلیل تجربیات دو جنگ قبلی، اعتمادی به طرف مقابل نداریم.»
قالیباف همچنین نوشته است: «ما هر آینه، دیپلماسی اقتدار را روش دیگری در کنار مبارزهٔ نظامی برای احقاق حقوق ملت ایران میدانیم.»
از اظهار نظر این مقام عالیرتبه جمهوری اسلامی چنین برمیآید که تهران هنوز پرونده مذاکره با آمریکا را بسته نمیداند.
وبسایت خبری اکسیوس هم از قول «منبعی آگاه از جریان گفتوگوها در اسلامآباد» نوشت که «بخشی از اختلافنظرها به پافشاری ایران بر کنترل تنگۀ هرمز و خودداری از چشمپوشی از ذخایر اورانیوم غنیسازیشدۀ خود مربوط میشد.»
