Yasmin Ansari, a Democratic and Iranian-American member of the U.S. House of Representatives, criticized the use of the term "Arabian Gulf" in a message on X directed at the U.S. Secretary of Defense on Sunday, April 23.

In her post, she wrote: "Last summer, I introduced the Persian Gulf Act after Trump threatened to change its name. Today, Pete Hegseth referred to it as the Arabian Gulf. The Persian Gulf has been recognized by international bodies by this name for centuries. Trump and Hegseth cannot change that now."

Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, mentioned in an Instagram post on Saturday that the passage of two U.S. ships through the Strait of Hormuz was "part of a broader mission to ensure the complete clearance of the strait from mines laid by the Revolutionary Guard in the 'Arabian Gulf.'"

او در این پست نوشته است: تابستان گذشته، من قانون خلیج‌فارس را پس از تهدید ترامپ به تغییر نام آن ارائه دادم. امروز، پیت هگست از آن به عنوان خلیج عربی یاد کرد. خلیج‌فارس قرن‌ها است که توسط نهادهای بین‌المللی به این نام شناخته می‌شود. ترامپ و هگست اکنون نمی‌توانند آن را تغییر دهند.
