Ismail Qaani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, on Tuesday, April 31, published a message on X confirming reports about his trip to Iraq and meetings with militia groups in the country, stating: "I traveled to Baghdad to convey the gratitude and appreciation of the people and the system of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the solidarity and cooperation of the insightful people, the great religious authority, and the officials of Iraq."

In the same message, the Quds Force commander expressed gratitude to the "people of Iraq" and referred to the efforts to select a prime minister and form a new cabinet months after the parliamentary elections, writing: "Forming a government is their right... The selection of a prime minister is solely based on the decision of Iraqis."

Qaani described the United States as a criminal against humanity and wrote: "Iraq is too great for others, especially the criminals against humanity, to interfere in their affairs."

Donald Trump had warned a month before the joint attack with Israel on the Islamic Republic of Iran that if Nouri al-Maliki, the candidate of the Shiite coalition, were elected as prime minister, all U.S. aid to Baghdad would be cut off.

اسماعیل قاآنی، فرمانده سپاه قدس جمهوری اسلامی ایران روز دوشنبه ۳۱ فروردین ماه با انتشار پیامی در اکس با تائید اخبار درباره سفرش به عراق و دیدار با گروه‌های شبه‌نظامی در این کشور نوشت: «برای ابلاغ تقدیر و تشکر مردم و نظام جمهوری اسلامی ایران از همدلی و همراهی مردم با بصیرت و مرجعیت بزرگ و مسئولین کشور عراق سفری به بغداد داشتم.»

فرمانده سپاه قدس با تقدیر از «مردم عراق» در همین پیام  و با اشاره به تلاش‌ها برای  انتخاب نخست وزیر و تشکیل کابینه جدید ماه‌ها پس از انتخابات پارلمانی نوشت: «تشکیل دولت حق آن‌ها است... انتخاب نخست وزیر صرفا براساس تصمیم عراقی انجام می‌شود.»

قآانی آمریکا را جنایتکار علیه بشریت توصیف کرد و نوشت: «عراق بزرگ‌تر از آن است که دیگران به‌خصوص جنایتکاران ضدبشریت در امور آن‌ها دخالت کنند.»

دونالد ترامپ یک ماه پیش از حمله مشترک با اسرائیل به جمهوری اسلامی ایران، هشدار داده بود که در صورت انتخاب نوری مالکی، نامزد ائتلاف شیعیان، به مقام نخست وزیری، تمام کمک‌های آمریکا به بغداد قطع خواهد شد.
