The judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced that in the early hours of Wednesday, April 21, it executed an employee of one of the "sensitive organizations of the country," named Mehdi Farid, who was active in the field of "passive defense," on charges of "espionage" for Israel.

Previously, human rights organizations had identified him as a former employee of the Atomic Energy Organization, who was arrested in the winter of 2022 and initially transferred to Greater Tehran Prison and later to Evin Prison.

It has been reported that Mehdi Farid worked at the same location (Amirabad site in Tehran) where Rouhollah Vadi, the nuclear scientist who was executed recently, was also employed.

قوه قضائیه جمهوری اسلامی اعلام کرد که بامداد چهارشنبه دوم اردیبهشت، کارمند یکی از «سازمان‌های حساس کشور» به نام مهدی فرید را که در حوزه «پدافند غیرعامل فعالیت داشت»، به اتهام «جاسوسی» برای اسرائیل اعدام کرد.

پیش از این سازمان‌های حقوق بشری او را کارمند پیشین سازمان انرژی اتمی معرفی کرده بودند که در زمستان ۱۴۰۱ بازداشت و ابتدا به زندان تهران بزرگ و بعدتر به زندان اوین منتقل شده بود.

گزارش شده که مهدی فرید در همان مکانی (سایت امیرآباد تهران) کار می‌کرد، که روزبه وادی، دانشمند هسته‌ای که چندی پیش اعدام شد نیز در آنجا مشغول به کار بود.

او زمستان ۱۴۰۱ بازداشت و ابتدا به ۱۰ سال حبس محکوم شد، اما در دادگاهی دیگر حکم اعدام گرفت؛ حکمی که پس از تأیید دیوان عالی کشور اجرا شد.
