Lufthansa Airlines is canceling some European routes and 20,000 planned short-haul flights until October in an effort to save jet fuel.
According to the Wall Street Journal, this German group announced on Tuesday that the canceled flights will primarily be operated by several of its regional airlines, resulting in a 1% reduction in its passenger capacity.
This action comes in response to tensions in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which will leave airlines facing a jet fuel shortage.
Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the European Union's Commissioner for Transport, warned on Tuesday, April 20, that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would have disastrous consequences for the world and Europe. Speaking at a special European Council summit in Brussels, this senior EU official raised concerns about the jet fuel shortage for passenger aircraft and called for finding alternative ways to ensure independence and diversify energy sources for the 27 European countries.

شرکت هواپیمایی لوفتهانزا با هدف صرفهجویی در سوخت جت، برخی از مسیرهای اروپایی و ۲۰ هزار پرواز کوتاهبرد برنامهریزی شده تا ماه اکتبر را لغو میکند.
به گزارش وال استریت ژورنال این گروه آلمانی روز سهشنبه اعلام کرد که پروازهای لغو شده توسط چندین شرکت هواپیمایی آن، عمدتاً منطقهای انجام میشود و معادل ۱٪ کاهش در ظرفیت مسافران آن خواهد بود.
این اقدام در پی تنشها در خاورمیانه و بسته شدن تنگه هرمز که خطوط هوایی را با کمبود سوخت جت مواجه خواهد کرد گرفته شده است.
آپوستولوس تزیزیکوستاس، کمیسر حملونقل اتحادیه اروپا روز سهشنبه اول اردیبهشتماه هشدار داد که بستهماندن تنگه هرمز پیامدهای فاجعهباری برای جهان و اروپا خواهد داشت.
این مقام ارشد اتحادیه اروپا که برای شرکت در اجلاس ویژه شورای اروپا در بروکسل صحبت میکرد با هشدار درباره کمبود سوخت جت برای هواپیماهای مسافربری، خواستار پیدا کردن راههای جایگزین برای استقلال و تکثر منابع انرژی ۲۷ کشور اروپایی شد.
