According to three American officials in a conversation with Axios, Donald Trump has given a short opportunity to the conflicting factions in Iran to reach a cohesive counterproposal; otherwise, the ceasefire he extended on Tuesday will come to an end.
An informed American source said, "Trump is willing to give the ceasefire another 3 to 5 days so that the Iranians can sort out their internal situation; however, this deadline is not going to be unlimited."
Trump's negotiators believe that reaching an agreement to end the war and resolve what remains of Iran's nuclear program is still possible. However, they are concerned that no one in Tehran has the "full authority" to respond positively to the agreement.
Reports indicate that Mojtaba Khamenei, the new leader of the Islamic Republic, has very limited communications, and the commanders of the Revolutionary Guards, who currently hold control of the country, have significantly disagreed with civilian negotiators over the upcoming strategy.

یک منبع آمریکایی آگاه در این باره گفت: «ترامپ تمایل دارد ۳ تا ۵ روز دیگر به آتشبس زمان بدهد تا ایرانیها بتوانند اوضاع داخلی خود را سروسامان دهند؛ اما این مهلت قرار نیست نامحدود باشد.»
مذاکرهکنندگان ترامپ بر این باورند که دستیابی به توافقی برای پایان دادن به جنگ و حلوفصل آنچه از برنامه هستهای ایران باقی مانده، هنوز امکانپذیر است. با این حال، آنها نگرانند که در تهران کسی دارای «اختیار تام» برای پاسخ مثبت به توافق نباشد.
گزارشها حاکی از آن است که مجتبی خامنهای، رهبر جدید جمهوری اسلامی، ارتباطات بسیار محدودی دارد و فرماندهان سپاه پاسداران که اکنون کنترل کشور را در دست دارند، با مذاکرهکنندگان غیرنظامی بر سر استراتژی پیشرو بهشدت دچار اختلاف شدهاند.
