Iranian media reported on Sunday that Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, arrived in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on Sunday evening.

He had met with senior officials in Pakistan on Saturday and then traveled to Oman. The IRNA news agency states that Araghchi went to the capital of Pakistan after a one-day trip to Oman.

Araghchi's return to Islamabad comes at a time when on Saturday, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, canceled his representatives' trip to Pakistan and stated that if Iran wants an agreement, it can contact his administration. This action by Trump has dimmed hopes for an agreement between the U.S. and Iran. He then mentioned that after the cancellation of this trip, Iran presented a "better proposal" for an agreement, but he deemed this proposal as "not sufficient."

On the other hand, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic announced on his Telegram channel that he had a phone conversation with his Saudi counterpart. The statement mentioned that Abbas Araghchi and Faisal bin Farhan discussed "the latest regional developments and ongoing diplomatic processes."

رسانه‌های ایران روز یکشنبه خبر دادند که عباس عراقچی، وزیر خارجه جمهوری اسلامی، عصر روز یکشنبه وارد اسلام‌آباد، پایتخت پاکستان، شد.

او روز شنبه هم در پاکستان با مقام‌های ارشد این کشور دیدار کرده بود و سپس به عمان رفته بود. خبرگزاری ایرنا می‌گوید عراقچی بعد از سفر یک روزه به عمان، به پایتخت پاکستان رفت.

بازگشت عراقچی به اسلام‌آباد در حالی رخ داده که روز شنبه دونالد ترامپ، رئیس‌جمهور آمریکا، سفر نمایندگان خود به پاکستان را لغو کرد و گفت ایران اگر خواهان توافق است، می‌تواند با دولت او تماس بگیرد.
این اقدام ترامپ، امیدها به شکل‌گیری توافق میان آمریکا و ایران را کمرنگ کرده است. او سپس گفت که بعد از لغو این سفر، ایران «پیشنهادی بهتر» برای توافق ارائه داد، اما این پیشنهاد نیز از نظر او «کافی» نیست.

از سوی دیگر وزیر خارجه جمهوری اسلامی در کانال تلگرام خود اعلام کرد که با همتای عربستانی خود تلفنی گفت‌وگو کرده است.
در این بیانیه آمده که عباس عراقچی و فیصل بن فرحان درباره «آخرین تحولات منطقه‌ای و روندهای جاری دیپلماتیک» گفت‌وگو کردند.
