During a hearing in the House Armed Services Committee, Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, defended the Trump administration's military strategy against Iran in a confrontation with Adam Smith.

Hegseth pointed to the success of Operation "Midnight Hammer," stating that Iran's nuclear facilities have been destroyed and buried underground, now under constant surveillance.

In this controversial discussion, Hegseth likened Iran's approach to a "North Korean strategy," saying, "Tehran intended to use a conventional missile shield to prevent challenges to itself while quietly moving towards nuclear weapons; however, President Trump saw Iran at its weakest moment and, in collaboration with Israeli partners, took action that only the U.S. could undertake."

In contrast, Adam Smith criticized the outcomes of this war, emphasizing that despite heavy military operations, Iran's nuclear situation has not improved, and Tehran has now taken a more aggressive stance in negotiations. Smith noted that before the war began, the Strait of Hormuz was open, but now Washington is negotiating merely to return to the pre-war status quo.

در جریان جلسه استماع در کمیته نیروهای مسلح مجلس نمایندگان آمریکا، پیت هگست، وزیر جنگ آمریکا در تقابل با آدام اسمیت، به دفاع از استراتژی نظامی دولت ترامپ علیه ایران پرداخت.

هگست با اشاره به موفقیت عملیات «پتک نیمه‌شب»، گفت که تاسیسات هسته‌ای ایران نابود و زیر زمین دفن شده‌اند و اکنون تحت نظارت شبانه‌روزی قرار دارند.

هگست در این بحث جنجالی، رویکرد ایران را به «استراتژی کره شمالی» تشبیه کرد و گفت: «تهران قصد داشت با استفاده از سپر موشک‌های متعارف، مانع از به چالش کشیدن خود شود تا به آرامی به سمت سلاح هسته‌ای حرکت کند؛ اما رئیس‌جمهوری ترامپ ایران را در ضعیف‌ترین لحظه‌اش دید و با همکاری شرکای اسرائیلی، اقدامی انجام داد که فقط از عهده آمریکا برمی‌آمد.»

در مقابل، آدام اسمیت با انتقاد از نتایج این جنگ، تاکید کرد که علیرغم عملیات‌های نظامی سنگین، وضعیت هسته‌ای ایران بهبود نیافته و تهران اکنون در مذاکرات موضع تهاجمی‌تری گرفته است.
اسمیت خاطرنشان کرد که پیش از شروع جنگ، تنگه هرمز باز بود، اما اکنون واشنگتن در حال مذاکره است تا صرفا به وضعیت پیش از جنگ بازگردد.
