Following the release of satellite images indicating a possible oil leak in an area near Kharg Island, Iran's Environmental Protection Agency stated: "The source of the pollution observed around Kharg Island is due to the discharge of contaminated ballast water from a damaged oil tanker."
This agency said: "No oil leak has been observed or reported from pipelines, oil terminal facilities, or platforms belonging to the Iranian Offshore Oil Company on Kharg Island."

در پی انتشار تصاویر ماهوارهای که نشاندهنده نشت احتمالی نفت در محدودهای در نزدیکی جزیره خارگ است، سازمان حفاظت محیط زیست ایران میگوید: «منشا آلودگی مشاهده شده در اطراف جزیره خارگ ناشی از تخلیه آب توازن آلوده یک نفتکش آسیبدیده بوده است.»
این نهاد گفت: «هیچگونه نشت نفت از خطوط لوله، تاسیسات پایانههای نفتی و یا سکوهای متعلق به شرکت نفت فلات قاره ایران در جزیره خارگ مشاهده یا گزارش نشده است.»
