According to the report by Mehr News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Propagation Organization, Mehdi Zare, a seismologist and professor at the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering, referred to the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in the 19th century on the eastern Tehran fault, stating: "The occurrence of recent 4-magnitude earthquakes on April 17 and May 11 in Pardis indicates energy release. The continuous occurrence of small earthquakes releases part of the fault's energy, but these tremors can be a sign of instability in a broader area, which may precede a larger event.

In other words, small and moderate tremors, while somewhat reducing stress, cannot definitively rule out the possibility of a major earthquake. In some cases, such sequences can be foreshocks."

به گزارش خبرگزاری مهر، وابسته به سازمان تبلیغات اسلامی، مهدی زارع، زلزله‌شناس و استاد پژوهشگاه بین‌المللی زلزله‌شناسی و مهندسی زلزله با اشاره به زمین‌لرزه به بزرگی ۷.۱ در قرن نوزدهم در گسل شرق تهران گفت: «وقوع زلزله‌های ۴ ریشتری اخیر در ۲۸ فروردین و ۲۲ اردیبهشت در پردیس نشان از تخلیه انرژی دارد. وقوع زمین‌لرزه‌های کوچک به صورت مستمر، بخشی از انرژی گسل را تخلیه می‌کند، ولی این لرزه‌ها می‌توانند نشانه‌ای از ناپایداری در پهنه‌ای وسیع‌تر باشند که مقدمه رویداد بزرگتری است.

به عبارت دیگر، لرزه‌های خرد و متوسط، هرچند تا حدی تنش را کاهش می‌دهند، اما نمی‌توانند به طور قطع احتمال وقوع یک زلزله بزرگ را منتفی کنند. در برخی موارد، چنین توالی‌هایی می‌توانند پیش‌لرزه (foreshock) باشند.»
