Fars News Agency, close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported on Sunday, May 17, that Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and a former member of the IRGC, has been appointed as Iran's special representative for China.

This security news agency provided no further explanation, simply stating: "Previously, Ali Larijani and Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli held such responsibilities."

The announcement of Qalibaf's appointment as special representative for China comes two days after the official visit of the U.S. President to China, during which one of the discussion topics was Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. The White House announced on Thursday, May 14, that Donald Trump, the U.S. President, and Xi Jinping, the President of China, discussed and agreed on expanding economic cooperation, keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, and preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

خبرگزاری فارس، نزدیک به سپاه پاسداران، روز یک‌شنبه ۲۷ اردیبهشت نوشت که محمدباقر قالیباف، رئیس مجلس شورای اسلامی و عضو سابق سپاه، به عنوان نماینده ویژه ایران در امور چین تعیین شده است.

این خبرگزاری امنیتی بدون هیچ توضیح دیگری تنها نوشته است:‌ «پیشتر علی لاریجانی و عبدالرضا رحمانی‌ فضلی چنین مسئولیتی را برعهده داشتند.»
