Iran says that the foreign minister's trip to New York for the Security Council meeting has been "canceled."

Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, cited "visa issues" as the reason for the cancellation of Abbas Araghchi's trip.

Mr. Baqaei had said last Wednesday regarding Mr. Araghchi's attendance at this meeting: "This trip to New York may take place, but it is also possible that it may not happen, as it is still not certain. The reason is that a visa must be issued, and we may have other priorities."

China, as the rotating president of the Security Council, will hold a high-level open debate on Tuesday, May 26, on the topic of "Maintaining the Goals and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centered International System."

This session will be chaired by Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the Foreign Minister of China.

China described this meeting as an "opportunity" for solidarity and consensus among member states to "reaffirm their firm commitment to maintaining the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter and to revive the central role of this organization in the international system."

ایران می‌گوید که سفر وزیر خارجه به نیویورک برای شرکت در نشست شورای امنیت «منتفی» شده است.

اسماعیل بقایی، سخنگوی وزارت خارجه ایران، دلیل انجام نشدن سفر عباس عراقچی را «مشکل روادید» عنوان کرد.

آقای بقایی چهارشنبه هفته پیش درمورد حضور آقای عراقچی در این نشست گفته بود: «این سفر به نیویورک احتمال دارد انجام شود و البته ممکن هم هست انجام نشود، چون هنوز قطعی نیست. دلیلش هم این است که هم باید روادید صادر شود و هم ممکن است اولویت‌های دیگری داشته باشیم.»

چین به‌عنوان رئیس دوره‌ای شورای امنیت، سه‌شنبه ۲۶ مه یک بحث آزاد در سطح بالا با موضوع «حفظ اهداف و اصول منشور سازمان ملل و تقویت نظام بین‌المللی متمرکز بر سازمان ملل» برگزار خواهد کرد.

این جلسه به ریاست وانگ یی، عضو دفتر سیاسی کمیته مرکزی حزب کمونیست و وزیر امور خارجه چین، برگزار می‌شود.

چین این نشست را «فرصتی» برای همبستگی و اجماع کشورهای عضو توصیف کرد تا «تعهد راسخ خود را به حفظ اهداف و اصول منشور سازمان ملل متحد مجددا تصریح و نقش محوری این سازمان را در نظام بین‌المللی احیا کنند.»
