The U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, announced that its forces targeted a commercial ship flying the Gambian flag, which Washington claims was heading towards one of Iran's ports in violation of a maritime blockade, and prevented it from continuing its course in the Gulf of Oman.

CENTCOM stated in a statement on Saturday, June 9, that U.S. forces identified the ship "Lian Star" on June 8 while it was moving in international waters towards one of Iran's ports and warned its crew more than 20 times.

According to this military entity, after the crew ignored the warnings, a U.S. aircraft disabled the ship by firing a Hellfire missile at its engine room.

CENTCOM added that the ship is no longer heading towards Iran.

The statement mentioned that since the implementation of the maritime blockade against Iran, U.S. forces have disabled five commercial ships and forced 116 others to change course.

CENTCOM did not provide further details about the ship's cargo or its exact destination in Iran.

ستاد فرماندهی مرکزی ارتش آمریکا، سنتکام، اعلام کرد نیروهای این کشور یک کشتی تجاری با پرچم گامبیا را که به گفته واشینگتن در نقض محاصره دریایی به سمت یکی از بنادر ایران در حرکت بود، در خلیج عمان هدف قرار داده و از ادامه مسیر آن جلوگیری کرده‌اند.

سنتکام روز شنبه نهم خرداد در بیانیه‌ای گفت نیروهای آمریکایی روز هشتم خرداد کشتی «لیان استار» را هنگام حرکت در آب‌های بین‌المللی به سوی یکی از بنادر ایران شناسایی کردند و بیش از ۲۰ بار به خدمه آن هشدار دادند.

به گفته این نهاد نظامی، پس از آنکه خدمه کشتی به هشدارها توجه نکردند، یک هواپیمای آمریکایی با شلیک موشک هلفایر به اتاق موتور کشتی، آن را از کار انداخت.

سنتکام افزود این کشتی دیگر به سمت ایران در حرکت نیست.

در این بیانیه آمده است که از زمان اجرای محاصره دریایی علیه ایران، نیروهای آمریکایی پنج کشتی تجاری را از کار انداخته و ۱۱۶ کشتی دیگر را وادار به تغییر مسیر کرده‌اند.

سنتکام جزئیات بیشتری درباره محموله کشتی یا مقصد دقیق آن در ایران ارائه نکرده است.
