A Tehran municipality official says that the holding of a "farewell ceremony" and funeral for Ali Khamenei, the slain leader of the Islamic Republic, in the cities of Qom, Mashhad, and Tehran has been "confirmed."
According to Iranian media, Mohammad Amin Tavakolizadeh, the social deputy of Tehran's municipality, said on Tuesday, June 12, that this organization is "preparing for a crowd of more than 15 to 20 million people in Tehran."
He did not specify the exact date of the ceremony but mentioned that it will likely take place at the end of Dhu al-Hijjah and the beginning of Muharram. This timing roughly coincides with late June and early July.
Ali Khamenei has not yet been buried since he was killed on March 9 last year in a joint attack by the U.S. and Israel. The social deputy of Tehran's municipality further stated that the "farewell ceremony" is planned to last three days, with the event in Tehran expected to last 24 hours.
According to Tavakolizadeh, Khamenei's burial site has been determined "according to his will and the recommendations of his close associates" at the shrine of the eighth Imam of Shia Muslims.

یک مقام شهرداری تهران میگوید که برگزاری «مراسم بدرقه» و تشییع جنازهٔ علی خامنهای، رهبر کشتهشدهٔ جمهوری اسلامی، در شهرهای قم، مشهد و تهران «قطعی شده است».
به گزارش رسانههای ایران، محمدامین توکلیزاده معاون اجتماعی شهرداری تهران روز سهشنبه ۱۲ خرداد گفت که این نهاد «در حال تدارک برای حضور جمعیتی بیش از ۱۵ تا ۲۰ میلیون نفر در تهران هستیم».
او به زمان دقیق برگزاری این مراسم اشاره نکرد ولی گفت که احتمالا در پایان ذیالحجه و اوایل محرم برگزار شود.
این زمان تقریبا مصادف با اواخر خرداد و اوایل تیرماه است.
علی خامنهای از ۹ اسفند پارسال که در حملات مشترک آمریکا و اسرائیل کشته شد، هنوز دفن نشده است.
معاون اجتماعی شهرداری تهران در ادامه گفت که «مراسم بدرقه» سه روز در نظر گرفته شده و در تهران قرار است ۲۴ ساعت طول بکشد.
به گفته توکلیزاده، محل دفن خامنهای «طبق وصیت ایشان و توصیههای نزدیکانشان» در حرم امام هشتم شیعیان تعیین شده است.
