Marjane Satrapi, the Iranian-French author, illustrator, and filmmaker, and creator of the graphic novel "Persepolis," passed away at the age of 56.

According to Agence France-Presse, Satrapi's relatives announced that she "died of grief just over a year after the passing of Matthias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life."

Last year, Satrapi rejected the Legion of Honor from the French government in protest against its hypocrisy towards the people of Iran and the Islamic Republic.

Marjane Satrapi gained worldwide fame with the publication of "Persepolis," a graphic novel about her life in Iran and her immigration, which received widespread acclaim and became one of the landmark works of contemporary graphic literature.

مرجان ساتراپی، نویسنده، تصویرگر و فیلمساز ایرانی-فرانسوی و خالق کتاب مصور «پرسپولیس»، در ۵۶ سالگی درگذشت.

به گزارش خبرگزاری فرانسه، نزدیکان ساتراپی اعلام کردند او «کمی بیش از یک سال پس از درگذشت ماتیاس ریپا، همسرش و عشق زندگی‌اش، از غم درگذشت.»

ساتراپی سال گذشته نشان لژیون دونور دولت فرانسه را در اعتراض به ریاکاری دولت فرانسه در قبال مردم ایران و جمهوری اسلامی رد کرد.

مرجان ساتراپی با انتشار «پرسپولیس»، کتابی مصور درباره زندگی خود در ایران و مهاجرت، به شهرت جهانی رسید. این اثر با استقبال گسترده مخاطبان روبه‌رو شد و به یکی از آثار شاخص ادبیات مصور معاصر تبدیل شد.
