The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights announced that since the beginning of this year, at least 40 people in Iran have been executed on charges related to "national security," among whom 18 are protesters.

Volker Turk added on Monday, June 25: "Authorities have engaged in severe repression, detaining thousands and imposing further restrictions on civil space."

In another part of his remarks, he welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran and urged all parties in the region to exercise maximum restraint.

Turk said: "I welcome the announcement that the United States and Iran have reached an understanding on a peace agreement that includes an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a framework for continuing negotiations."

He added: "At this critical juncture, it is clear that all parties must exercise maximum restraint and work towards the swift and good-faith implementation of the agreement reached."

کمیسر عالی حقوق بشر سازمان ملل اعلام کرد که از آغاز سال جاری میلادی تاکنون، دست‌کم ۴۰ نفر در ایران به اتهام‌های مرتبط با «امنیت ملی» اعدام شده‌اند که در میان آن‌ها ۱۸ معترض نیز دیده می‌شود.

ولکر تورک روز دوشنبه ۲۵ خرداد افزود: «مقامات دست به سرکوب شدید زده‌اند، هزاران نفر را بازداشت کرده و محدودیت‌های بیشتری بر فضای مدنی اعمال کرده‌اند».

او در بخش دیگری از اظهاراتش از اعلام توافق صلح میان ایالات متحده و ایران استقبال کرد و از همه طرف‌ها در منطقه خواست حداکثر خویشتنداری را رعایت کنند.

تورک گفت: «از اعلام این‌که ایالات متحده و ایران بر سر یک توافق صلح به تفاهم رسیده‌اند که شامل آتش‌بسی فوری و دائمی، بازگشایی تنگه هرمز و چارچوبی برای ادامه مذاکرات است، استقبال می‌کنم».

او افزود: «در این مقطع حساس، روشن است که همه طرف‌ها باید حداکثر خویشتنداری را به خرج دهند و برای اجرای سریع و با حسن نیت توافق حاصل‌شده تلاش کنند».
