Iranian media published a written message attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei on Thursday night, in which the leader of the Islamic Republic stated that he had a "different opinion" regarding the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, and placed the responsibility for it on Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the Supreme National Security Council, and other members of this council.

In this message regarding the agreement with the United States, it is stated:
"I fundamentally had a different opinion, but due to the commitment that the respected President, as the head of the Supreme National Security Council, made on behalf of himself and other members to uphold the rights of the Iranian people and the resistance front, and explicitly accepted responsibility for it, I granted permission for it."

The message refers to the recent memorandum as "an agreement between the Presidents of Iran and the United States" and mentions that the leader of the Islamic Republic and the people will from this moment "await the fulfillment of the stated conditions." It is noted that future in-person negotiations "will not mean accepting the enemy's viewpoint."

In the headline and text of the letter and the news produced about it, there is a strong emphasis that this is a memorandum between Pezeshkian and Trump, and it does not mention it as being between Iran and the United States.

In reactions, there are claims of downplaying Ghalibaf's role or protecting him by shielding him with Pezeshkian.

رسانه‌های ایران پنج‌شنبه شب متن پیام مکتوبی منسوب به مجتبی خامنه‌ای را منتشر کردند که در آن رهبر جمهوری اسلامی درباره امضای تفاهم‌نامه میان ایران و آمریکا گفته است که «نظر دیگری» داشته و مسئولیت آن را بر عهده مسعود پزشکیان، رئیس شورای عالی امنیت ملی، و دیگر اعضای این شورا دانسته است.

در این پیام درباره توافق با ایالات متحده آمده است:
«بنده علی‌الاصول، نظر دیگری داشتم ولی از باب تعهدی که رئیس‌جمهور محترم به‌عنوان رئیس شورای عالی امنیت ملی از طرف خود و سایر اعضا در پاسداشت حقوق ملت ایران و جبهه مقاومت به بنده دادند و تصریح به قبول مسئولیت آن نمودند، اجازه آن را صادر نمودم‌.»

در این پیام به تفاهمنامه اخیر به عنوان «تفاهم‌نامه‌ای بین رئیس‌جمهوران ایران و آمریکا» اشاره و گفته شده است که رهبر جمهوری اسلامی و مردم از این لحظه «منتظر تحقق شروط گفته ‌شده» خواهند بود.
در این پیام آمده که مذاکرات حضوری آینده «به معنی پذیرش نظر دشمن نخواهد بود.»
