Kaya Kalas, the EU's foreign policy chief, said it is still too early to discuss the lifting of EU sanctions against Iran, and this issue will be considered after reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran.

Before the meeting of EU member state leaders, she told reporters: "When the conditions are right, member states will discuss the appropriateness of lifting sanctions, but we have not yet reached that stage."

The EU currently has a set of multilateral sanctions in place against over 700 individuals and entities in Iran, which include travel bans and asset freezes.

کایا کالاس، مسئول سیاست خارجه اتحادیه اروپا، گفت هنوز برای بحث درباره لغو تحریم‌های اتحادیه اروپا علیه ایران زود است و این موضوع پس از دستیابی به یک توافق هسته‌ای با ایران بررسی خواهد شد.

او پیش از نشست رهبران کشورهای عضو اتحادیه اروپا به خبرنگاران گفت: «زمانی که شرایط فراهم شود، کشورهای عضو درباره مناسب بودن لغو تحریم‌ها گفت‌وگو خواهند کرد، اما هنوز به آن مرحله نرسیده‌ایم.»

اتحادیه اروپا در حال حاضر مجموعه‌ای از تحریم‌های چندجانبه علیه بیش از ۷۰۰ فرد و نهاد در ایران اعمال کرده است که شامل ممنوعیت سفر و مسدود شدن دارایی‌ها می‌شود.
