Trump wrote on Truth Social: Meloni's popularity in Italy has sharply declined, perhaps because he and NATO turned their backs on the United States during the mission to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Italy didn't even allow us to use its airstrips, which was a major logistical barrier; this while the U.S. spends hundreds of billions of dollars annually to protect Italy and other NATO allies. The U.S. President concluded with a condescending tone: Now that the United States has militarily defeated Iran, he wants to befriend us again to boost his popularity; but no, thank you!

Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, responded to Donald Trump's recent attacks with a sharp statement on her Instagram page, calling the U.S. President's verbal assaults "unfounded and meaningless."
In this message addressed to Trump, Meloni wrote: "My popularity has nothing to do with my relationship with you, and being friends with you hasn't helped it. My popularity stems from my ability to defend Italy's national interests; that is what I have always done."
The Prime Minister of Italy also defended her decision during the recent war and her refusal to allow the U.S. to use military bases in the country, adding: "The use of U.S. military bases on our soil is subject to mutual agreements that we have always respected. As long as I am Prime Minister, these agreements should not be violated; because Italy remains an independent country with sovereign rights."
Meloni concluded: "In any case, my level of popularity is none of your business. I suggest you focus on your own popularity."

ترامپ در تروث سوشال نوشت: محبوبیت ملونی در ایتالیا به شدت کاهش یافته، شاید به این دلیل که او و ناتو در جریان ماموریت جلوگیری از دستیابی ایران به سلاح هسته‌ای، به ایالات متحده پشت کردند.
ایتالیا حتی اجازه استفاده از باندهای پروازی خود را به ما نداد که یک مانع لوجستیکی بزرگ بود؛ آن هم در حالی که آمریکا سالانه صدها میلیارد دلار برای محافظت از ایتالیا و دیگر متحدان ناتو هزینه می‌کند.
رئیس‌جمهوری آمریکا در پایان با لحنی تحقیرآمیز تاکید کرد: اکنون که ایالات متحده ایران را از نظر نظامی شکست داده، او می‌خواهد برای بالا بردن آمار محبوبیتش دوباره با ما رفیق شود؛ اما نه، ممنون!

جورجیا ملونی، نخست‌وزیر ایتالیا، با انتشار بیانیه‌ای تند در صفحه اینستاگرام خود، به هجمه‌های اخیر دونالد ترامپ پاسخ داد و حملات کلامی رئیس‌جمهوری آمریکا را «بی‌دلیل و بی‌معنی» خواند.
ملونی در این پیام خطاب به ترامپ نوشت: «محبوبیت من به هیچ‌وجه به رابطه با شما بستگی ندارد و دوستی با شما نیز کمکی به آن نکرده است. محبوبیت من حاصل توانایی‌ام در دفاع از منافع ملی ایتالیاست؛ یعنی همان کاری که همواره انجام داده‌ام.»
نخست‌وزیر ایتالیا همچنین با دفاع از تصمیم خود در جریان جنگ اخیر و عدم اجازه به آمریکا برای استفاده از پایگاه‌های نظامی این کشور، افزود: «نحوه استفاده از پایگاه‌های نظامی آمریکا در خاک ما، تابع توافق‌نامه‌های متقابلی است که ما همیشه به آن‌ها احترام گذاشته‌ایم. تا زمانی که من نخست‌وزیر هستم، این توافقات نباید نقض شوند؛ چرا که ایتالیا یک کشور مستقل و دارای حق حاکمیت باقی می‌ماند.»
ملونی در پایان نوشت: «در هر صورت، میزان محبوبیت من اصلا به شما مربوط نیست. پیشنهاد می‌کنم شما روی محبوبیت خودتان تمرکز کنید.»
