The Wall Street Journal reported, citing several U.S. officials, that Donald Trump has become inclined to expand U.S. military operations in Iran after several briefing sessions with his senior aides.

According to these unnamed officials, the options discussed include increasing airstrikes, deploying ground troops to seize Iranian islands near the Strait of Hormuz, and bombing a fortified and secret nuclear facility.

The newspaper wrote that Donald Trump hosted a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday afternoon, U.S. time, to discuss the potential seizure of Kharg Island and other areas along the Strait of Hormuz using American forces, as well as the possible bombing of a tunnel complex in Mount Kolang Gazla, also known as Peikaks or Mount Kolang.

Mount Kolang Gazla is the site of a deep and secret Iranian nuclear facility near Natanz that has not yet been targeted by U.S. attacks. The Wall Street Journal states that the expansion of airstrikes against more targets in Iran, including power plants, remains likely.

به‌گفتۀ این مقام‌ها که نام‌شان اعلام نشده، گزینه‌های مطرح‌شده شامل افزایش حملات هوایی، اعزام نیروهای زمینی برای تصرف جزایر ایرانی در نزدیکی تنگه هرمز و بمباران یک تأسیسات هسته‌ای مستحکم و مخفی است.

به‌نوشتۀ این روزنامه، دونالد ترامپ عصر سه‌شنبه به وقت آمریکا میزبان جلسه‌ای در اتاق وضعیت کاخ سفید بود تا در مورد تصرف احتمالی جزیرهٔ خارگ و سایر مناطق در امتداد تنگهٔ هرمز با استفاده از نیروهای آمریکایی و همچنین بمباران احتمالی یک مجتمع تونل در کوه کلنگ گزلا که به پیکاکس یا کوه کلنگ معروف است، بحث کند.

کوه کلنگ گزلا محل یک تأسیسات هسته‌ای عمیق و مخفی ایران نزدیک نطنز است که تاکنون هدف حملات آمریکا قرار نگرفته است. وال‌استریت جورنال می‌گوید گسترش حملات هوایی علیه اهداف بیشتر در ایران، از جمله نیروگاه‌ها، نیز همچنان محتمل است.
