Youssef Raji, Lebanon's Foreign Minister, says the decision to end Hezbollah's military role in the country was a sovereign and independent decision by Lebanon, made prior to the recent principled agreement with Israel.

Mr. Raji stated on Thursday, July 25, that this decision paved the way for an agreement reached last month through U.S. mediation between Lebanon and Israel.

Emphasizing that Lebanon has "made its decision," he said there will be no return to "the duality of sovereignty," and there is no place for weapons outside the framework of the state's legitimacy or decision-making outside the country's official institutions.

Raji also mentioned that the deployment of the Lebanese army throughout the country is an inseparable issue from the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied areas of Lebanon.

Hezbollah, which is supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran, is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S., but the European Union only considers its military wing to be terrorist.

یوسف رجی، وزیر خارجه لبنان، می‌گوید تصمیم برای پایان‌دادن به نقش نظامی حزب‌الله در این کشور یک تصمیم حاکمیتی و مستقل لبنان بوده و پیش از توافق اصولی اخیر با اسرائیل اتخاذ شده است.

آقای رجی روز پنجنشبه ۲۵ تیر گفت که این تصمیم زمینه را برای توافقی فراهم کرد که ماه گذشته با میانجی‌گری آمریکا میان لبنان و اسرائیل حاصل شد.

او با تأکید بر این‌که لبنان «تصمیم خود را گرفته است»، گفت دیگر بازگشتی به «دوگانگی حاکمیت» وجود نخواهد داشت و جایی برای سلاح خارج از چارچوب مشروعیت دولت یا تصمیم‌گیری خارج از نهادهای رسمی کشور نیست.

رجی همچنین گفت استقرار ارتش لبنان در سراسر خاک این کشور، موضوعی جدایی‌ناپذیر از خروج کامل نیروهای اسرائیلی از همهٔ مناطق اشغالی لبنان است.

حزب‌الله که تحت حمایت جمهوری اسلامی ایران است، از سوی آمریکا یک سازمان تروریستی شناخته شده اما اتحادیه اروپا تنها شاخهٔ نظامی آن را تروریستی می‌داند.
