The Greek shipping company "Dainakham Tankers" announced that as tensions rise between Iran and the U.S. in the region, two tankers managed by the company were targeted by projectiles of unknown origin while passing through the coastal waters of Oman on Monday.
Dainakham stated that the tanker "Kavomilis," flying the Maltese flag, was hit by two projectiles, causing a fire in its engine room and forcing the crew to abandon the ship.
In a statement, the company said: "After the ship's fire suppression system was activated, the captain decided to evacuate the vessel."
Dainakham added that all crew members were safely located by Omani authorities and transferred to shore, and the company is in close contact with all relevant regional authorities.
The British maritime risk management company Vanguard reported that the incident occurred while the ship was approximately eight nautical miles northwest of Kumzar, Oman.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations organization, which had previously reported that the ship was on fire, stated that no environmental pollution has been reported.

شرکت کشتیرانی یونانی «دایناکام تنکرز» همزمان با بالا گرفتن درگیریها میان ایران و آمریکا در منطقه اعلام کرد که دو نفتکش تحت مدیریت این شرکت روز دوشنبه هنگام عبور در آبهای ساحلی عمان، هدف پرتابههایی با منشأ نامشخص قرار گرفتند.
شرکت دایناکام اعلام کرد نفتکش «کاوومیلیز» با پرچم مالت هدف دو پرتابه قرار گرفت که باعث آتشسوزی در اتاق موتور آن شد و خدمه را ناچار به ترک کشتی کرد.
این شرکت در بیانیهای گفت: «پس از فعال شدن سامانه اطفای حریق کشتی، ناخدا تصمیم گرفت کشتی را تخلیه کند.»
دایناکام افزود که تمامی خدمه توسط مقامهای عمانی به سلامت پیدا شده و به ساحل منتقل شدند و این شرکت در تماس نزدیک با همه مقامهای ذیربط منطقهای قرار دارد.
شرکت بریتانیایی مدیریت ریسک دریایی ونگارد اعلام کرد این حادثه زمانی رخ داد که کشتی در فاصله حدود هشت مایل دریایی در شمالغربی کُمزار عمان در حال عبور بود.
سازمان عملیات تجارت دریایی بریتانیا که پیشتر گزارش داده بود این کشتی دچار آتشسوزی شده است، اعلام کرد هیچگونه آلودگی زیستمحیطی گزارش نشده است.
