On Friday, August 2, Amnesty International urged the authorities of the Islamic Republic to immediately halt any plans to carry out the execution of Benjamin Nagdi, an athlete.
Benjamin Nagdi was arrested on January 3, 2025, in Shiraz in connection with nationwide protests and was forcibly disappeared for 53 days.
Iranian state media broadcast his forced "confessions" one day after his arrest and before the trial took place.
This athlete was later sentenced to death on May 11 of this year on charges of "corruption on earth," with the claim that he used a fire extinguisher against security forces.
Amnesty International states that the death sentence for Benjamin Nagdi was issued after a "severely unfair trial."
This human rights organization has expressed concern that Benjamin Nagdi's "confessions" may have been obtained under duress, citing previous patterns of Iranian authorities in obtaining forced confessions "under torture and other ill-treatment."

عفو بینالملل روز جمعه دوم مرداد از مقامهای جمهوری اسلامی خواست که فوراً هرگونه برنامه برای اجرای حکم اعدام بنیامین نقدی، ورزشکار، را متوقف کنند.
بنیامین نقدی ۱۳ دی ۱۴۰۴ در شیراز در ارتباط با اعتراضات سراسری بازداشت و بهمدت ۵۳ روز بهطور قهری ناپدید شد.
رسانههای دولتی ایران یک روز پس از بازداشت و پیش از برگزاری دادگاه، «اعترافات» اجباری او را پخش کردند.
این ورزشکار بعداً در ۲۲ اردیبهشت امسال به اتهام «افساد فیالارض» به اعدام محکوم شد، با این ادعا که از کپسول آتشنشانی علیه نیروهای امنیتی استفاده کرده است.
عفو بینالملل میگوید که حکم اعدام برای بنیامین نقدی پس از «محاکمهای بهشدت ناعادلانه» صادر شده است.
این نهاد حقوق بشری با استناد به الگوهای پیشین مقامهای جمهوری اسلامی ایرانی در گرفتن اعترافات اجباری «تحت شکنجه و سایر بدرفتاریها»، ابراز نگرانی کرده که «اعترافات» بنیامین نقدی تحت اجبار گرفته شده باشد.
