The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that the country's air defense systems intercepted and destroyed drones that were launched from Iraq towards oil facilities in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia and also towards the city of Riyadh.

The ministry stated that these drones were flown by Iran-backed militia groups in Iraq.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the attack and reiterated the country's right to respond to the source of the "aggression" and to deter those responsible for it.

The ministry also urged the Iraqi government to take all necessary measures to prevent the use of its territory as a launch pad for attacks against Saudi Arabia.

وزارت دفاع عربستان سعودی روز دوشنبه اعلام کرد که سامانه‌های پدافند هوایی این کشور، پهپادهایی را که از عراق به‌سوی تأسیسات نفتی در استان شرقی عربستان و همچنین شهر ریاض پرتاب شده بودند، رهگیری و منهدم کرده‌اند.

این وزارتخانه اعلام کرد که این پهپادها توسط گروه‌های شبه‌نظامی مورد حمایت ایران در عراق به پرواز درآمده بودند.

وزارت امور خارجه عربستان نیز این حمله را محکوم کرد و بار دیگر بر حق این کشور برای پاسخ به منشأ «تجاوز» و بازدارندگی در برابر عاملان آن تأکید کرد.

این وزارتخانه همچنین از دولت عراق خواست تمامی اقدامات لازم را برای جلوگیری از استفاده از خاک این کشور به‌عنوان سکوی پرتاب حملات علیه عربستان سعودی انجام دهد.
