Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq and one of the leaders of the Shia in Iraq, issued a statement calling on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps not to target Iraqi territory and simultaneously urged Iraqi armed groups not to give regional countries a pretext for attack with their actions.

In this statement, released on Wednesday, July 28, al-Sadr wrote that Iraq should not become a place for targeting the Islamic Republic and urged "brothers in the Revolutionary Guard" to refrain from attacking the "sacred and independent land of Iraq."

He also called on what he referred to as "rogue militias" not to create grounds for attacks by Gulf Arab countries on Iraq with their actions.

The leader of the Sadrist movement condemned the targeting of Iraqi territory by any country or party and urged the Baghdad government to assert its sovereignty, establish security, and prevent the country from being dragged into war and sectarian conflicts. He emphasized that Iraq and its people need peace more than anything, as years of war have exhausted the country's strength and capacities.

This statement comes at a time when, since the beginning of the 40-day war, the Revolutionary Guard has repeatedly targeted the positions of Kurdish parties in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. At the same time, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early Wednesday, July 28, that American and Saudi forces had targeted the positions of armed groups aligned with the Islamic Republic in Iraq in a joint operation.

مقتدی صدر، رهبر جریان صدر عراق و از رهبران شیعیان عراق، با انتشار بیانیه‌ای از سپاه پاسداران خواست خاک عراق را هدف حملات خود قرار ندهد و هم‌زمان از گروه‌های مسلح عراقی نیز خواست با اقدامات خود به کشورهای منطقه بهانه حمله ندهند.

صدر در این بیانیه که روز چهارشنبه هفتم مرداد منتشر شد، نوشت عراق نباید به محلی برای هدف قرار دادن جمهوری اسلامی تبدیل شود و از «برادران در سپاه پاسداران» خواست از حمله به «سرزمین مقدس و مستقل عراق» خودداری کنند.

او همچنین از آنچه «میلیشیاهای خودسر» خواند، خواست با اقدامات خود زمینه حمله کشورهای عربی خلیج فارس به عراق را فراهم نکنند.

رهبر جریان صدر با محکوم کردن هدف قرار گرفتن خاک عراق از سوی هر کشور یا هر طرفی، از دولت بغداد خواست حاکمیت خود را اعمال کند، امنیت را برقرار سازد و مانع کشیده شدن این کشور به جنگ و درگیری‌های فرقه‌ای شود. او تاکید کرد عراق و مردمش بیش از هر چیز به صلح نیاز دارند و سال‌ها جنگ، توان و ظرفیت‌های این کشور را فرسوده است.

این بیانیه در شرایطی منتشر شده که از آغاز جنگ ۴۰ روزه، سپاه پاسداران بارها مواضع احزاب کُرد در اقلیم کُردستان عراق را هدف قرار داده است. هم‌زمان، فرماندهی مرکزی ارتش آمریکا (سنتکام) بامداد چهارشنبه هفتم مرداد اعلام کرد نیروهای آمریکایی و عربستان سعودی در یک عملیات مشترک، مواضع گروه‌های مسلح همسو با جمهوری اسلامی در عراق را هدف قرار داده‌اند.
