He added: Later, we decided to announce the news of the leader's death that dawn and tell the people to come to the streets.

Qalibaf states that he was certain of Khamenei's death in that first hour, while officials of the Islamic Republic denied the news of Khamenei's death until the early morning of the next day, claiming he was present in the command room and was leading the war.

محمدباقر قالیباف، رییس مجلس گفت: در روز اول جنگ در ۹ اسفند، ما یک‌ساعت بعد از بمباران فهمیدیم که رهبرمان کشته شده است.

او ادامه داد: تا ما توانستیم سران قوه را جمع کنیم و لاریجانی هم بیاید، ساعت هشت شب شد، آن جا تصمیم گرفتیم اعلام خبر مرگ رهبری صبح فردایش باشد. بعد این جلسه هم سریع پراکنده شدیم.
او اضافه کرد: بعدتر تصمیم گرفتیم همان سحرگاه خبر مرگ رهبری را اعلام کنیم و به مردم بگوییم به خیابان بیایید.

قالیباف در حالی می‌گوید که همان ساعت اول از مرگ خامنه‌ای مطمئن شده که مقام‌های جمهوری اسلامی تا بامداد روز بعد خبر مرگ خامنه‌ای را تکذیب کرده و اعلام می‌کردند او در اتاق فرماندهی حضور داشته و مشغول راهبری جنگ است.
