The U.S. Department of State announced in a report released on Friday, August 6, 2026, that it has targeted "a network of exchange offices and shell companies linked to the Islamic Republic."

In the statement released by this department, it emphasized that the United States is making decisive decisions aimed at "cutting off the financial lifelines" that keep the Iranian regime afloat. The department stated that these actions will aim to dismantle a network of exchange offices and shell companies that helped Iran secretly transfer hundreds of millions of dollars through the international financial system.

Part of the U.S. State Department's statement noted that "Tehran accessed oil revenues through these networks, circumvented sanctions imposed to curb its destabilizing activities, and laundered its financial resources using shell companies."

Targeting banks, exchange offices, and individuals who operate and facilitate this illegal network is, as stated in the released statement, a clear way to declare that "anyone who helps Iran circumvent sanctions will face serious consequences." The U.S. State Department considered the actions taken by the Treasury Department as a sign of the continuation of the "maximum pressure" policy of the Donald Trump administration against Iran. This policy emphasizes "cutting off the financial resources used by the government to threaten regional stability, support terrorism, and enhance its military capabilities."

The U.S. Treasury Secretary said on Friday that a ceasefire agreement with Iran might be reached "today or tomorrow" for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Scott Bassett, in an interview with "12 News," referred to the dire economic situation in Iran, stating: "I think soon, maybe even today or tomorrow, we will witness an agreement for a 30 to 60-day ceasefire, and the Strait [of Hormuz] will be opened. Energy prices should also decrease."

He emphasized that the United States will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, stating that due to U.S. military operations and the imposition of severe sanctions against Tehran, "they are facing food inflation of 150 to 180 percent and can no longer afford to pay their military personnel."

Bassett also commented on the state of Iran's military infrastructure, saying: "The air force has been destroyed, the navy has been destroyed, and a large part of their missiles and, more importantly, their missile production capability has been lost."

در بیانیه منتشر شده از سوی این وزارتخانه تاکید شده است که ایالات متحده در حال اخذ تصمیمات قاطع با هدف «قطع شریان‌های مالی» است که حاکمیت جمهوری اسلامی ایران را سر پا نگه می‌دارند.
این وزارتخانه در بیانیه خود نوشته است که این اقدامات با هدف برچیدن شبکه‌ای از صرافی‌ها و شرکت‌های صوری انجام خواهد شد که به ایران کمک می‌کردند صدها میلیون دلار را به‌طور مخفیانه از طریق نظام مالی بین‌المللی جابه‌جا کند.
در بخشی از بیانیه وزارت خارجه ایالات متحده آمده است که «تهران از طریق این شبکه‌ها به درآمدهای نفتی دسترسی پیدا می‌کرد، تحریم‌هایی را که با هدف مهار فعالیت‌های بی‌ثبات‌کننده‌اش وضع شده‌اند دور می‌زد و با استفاده از شرکت‌های پوششی، منابع مالی خود را پول‌شویی می‌کرد.»

هدف قرار دادن بانک‌ها، صرافی‌ها و افرادی که این شبکه غیرقانونی را اداره و تسهیل می‌کنند از سوی آمریکا چنانچه در بیانیه منتشر شده آمده راهی روشن برای اعلام آن است که «هر کس به ایران برای دور زدن تحریم‌ها کمک کند، با پیامدهای جدی روبه‌رو خواهد شد.»
وزارت خارجه آمریکا اقدامات انجام شده از سوی وزارت خزانه‌داری این کشور را نشانی بر تداوم سیاست «فشار حداکثری» دولت «دونالد ترامپ» علیه ایران دانست. سیاستی که بر «قطع منابع مالی مورد استفاده حکومت برای تهدید ثبات منطقه، حمایت از تروریسم و تقویت توانمندی‌های نظامی‌اش» تاکید می‌کند.

اسکات بسنت در گفت‌وگو با شبکه «۱۲ نیوز» با اشاره به وضعیت وخیم اقتصادی در ایران گفت: «فکر می‌کنم به‌زودی، شاید حتی امروز یا فردا، شاهد توافقی برای برقراری یک آتش‌بس ۳۰ تا ۶۰ روزه خواهیم بود و تنگه [هرمز] باز خواهد شد. قیمت انرژی هم باید کاهش پیدا کند.»

او با تأکید بر این که ایالات متحده هرگز اجازه نخواهد داد ایران به سلاح هسته‌ای دست یابد، گفت تحت تاثیر عملیات نظامی آمریکا و اعمال تحریم‌های شدید علیه تهران، «آنها با تورم ۱۵۰ تا ۱۸۰ درصدی مواد غذایی مواجه‌اند و دیگر توان پرداخت حقوق نیروهای نظامی‌شان را ندارند».

بسنت همچنین درباره وضعیت زیرساخت‌های نظامی ایران گفت: «نیروی هوایی نابود شد، نیروی دریایی نابود شد و بخش بزرگی از موشک‌ها و مهم‌تر از آن، توان تولید موشک آنها از بین رفت.»
