On Sunday, August 18, several government media outlets reported the appointment of Mohsen Rezaei, military advisor to Mojtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, as his representative in the Supreme National Security Council, but minutes later, they deleted the news.

The Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, quoted "sources" stating that with this appointment, Mohsen Rezaei and Saeed Jalili would be Mojtaba Khamenei's two representatives in the Supreme National Security Council. Tasnim removed this information from its Telegram channel after a few minutes.

Media outlets Mehr, ISNA, and Jamaran also published the news of Rezaei's appointment and shortly thereafter retracted their articles.

The publication and deletion of this news occurred amid increasing disagreements within the structure of the Islamic Republic regarding the negotiations with the United States, including the nuclear file and the outlook for the Strait of Hormuz.

شماری از رسانه‌های حکومتی یکشنبه ۱۸ مرداد از انتصاب محسن رضایی، مشاور نظامی مجتبی خامنه‌ای، رهبر جمهوری اسلامی، به‌عنوان نماینده او در شورای عالی امنیت ملی خبر دادند، اما دقایقی بعد این خبر را حذف کردند.

خبرگزاری تسنیم، وابسته به سپاه پاسداران، به نقل از «شنیده‌ها» نوشت که با این انتصاب، محسن رضایی و سعید جلیلی دو نماینده مجتبی خامنه‌ای در شورای عالی امنیت ملی خواهند بود. تسنیم پس از چند دقیقه این مطلب را از کانال تلگرامی خود حذف کرد.

رسانه‌های مهر، ایسنا و جماران نیز خبر انتصاب رضایی را منتشر کردند و اندکی بعد مطالب خود را برداشتند.

انتشار و حذف این خبر در شرایطی صورت گرفت که در روزهای اخیر اختلاف‌ها در ساختار جمهوری اسلامی بر سر روند گفت‌وگوها با آمریکا، از جمله پرونده هسته‌ای و چشم‌انداز تنگه هرمز، افزایش یافته است.
