The Counter-Terrorism Directorate of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced that two drones launched from inside Iranian territory on Sunday evening, August 25, targeted the office of Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, as well as the residence of the head of intelligence in this autonomous region.

According to a statement from the directorate on Tuesday, "Two explosive-laden drones of the Hadeed-110 type were fired from across the Iranian borders towards the private office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and the residence of the director of the Parastin Agency (the intelligence organization of the region). Fortunately, no casualties have been reported."

Masrour Barzani strongly condemned these "brazen and unacceptable aggressions" in a post on X, stating that "these actions represent a dangerously escalating tension and a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, and such attacks will not deter us from continuing our duties and protecting our citizens."

The news of this attack comes a day after Axios reported that the Donald Trump administration had sought the help of the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to establish direct communication with senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps during the previous round of negotiations with Tehran.

Ismail Baqai, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, described the incident as "very suspicious" and called for "increased vigilance from all parties."
Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, also stated in a phone conversation with Fuad Hussein, his Iraqi counterpart, that he has "no information indicating that these attacks originated from inside Iranian territory."

اداره مبارزه با تروریسم اقلیم کردستان عراق اعلام کرد دو پهپاد که شامگاه یکشنبه ۲۵ مرداد از داخل خاک ایران پرتاب شده بودند، دفتر مسرور بارزانی، نخست‌وزیر کردستان عراق، و همچنین منزل رئیس اطلاعات این منطقه خودمختار را هدف قرار دادند.

بر اساس اطلاعیه روز دوشنبه این اداره، «دو پهپادِ حامل مواد منفجره از نوع حدید-۱۱۰، از آن‌سوی مرزهای ایران به سمت دفتر خصوصی نخست‌وزیر اقلیم کردستان و اقامتگاه مدیر آژانس پاراستین (سازمان اطلاعات اقلیم) شلیک شدند. خوشبختانه، هیچ‌گونه تلفاتی گزارش نشده است».

مسرور بارزانی در پستی در شبکه ایکس، به شدت «این تجاوزات گستاخانه و غیرقابل‌قبول» را محکوم کرد و نوشت که «این اقدامات به منزله تشدید خطرناک تنش‌ها و تهدیدی مستقیم علیه امنیت و ثبات منطقه است و چنین حملاتی ما را از ادامه انجام وظایف و محافظت از شهروندانمان باز نخواهد داشت».

انتشار خبر این حمله یک روز پس از آن صورت می‌گیرد که وبسایت اکسیوس گزارش داده بود دولت دونالد ترامپ در دور قبلی مذاکرات با تهران، از رئیس اقلیم کردستان عراق برای برقراری ارتباط مستقیم با فرماندهان ارشد سپاه پاسداران کمک گرفته بود.

اسماعیل بقائی، سخنگوی وزارت خارجهٔ جمهوری اسلامی، این رویداد را «بسیار مشکوک» توصیف کرد و خواستار «هوشیاری بیش از پیش همهٔ طرف‌ها» شد.
عباس عراقچی، وزیر خارجه جمهوری اسلامی، نیز در گفت‌وگوی تلفنی با فؤاد حسین، همتای عراقی خود، گفت «هیچ اطلاعاتی مبنی بر آغاز این حملات از داخل خاک ایران» ندارد.
