The Federal Court of Canada has rejected the request of Salman Samani, former Deputy and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic during the crackdown on the nationwide protests in November 2019, to halt his deportation from the country. Accordingly, the Canada Border Services Agency is required to execute his deportation order.

Samani entered Canada on a tourist visa after resigning from his position. Meanwhile, according to Canadian laws, senior officials of human rights violating governments do not have the right to be present in this country.

In his request, Samani claimed that he would face "the risk of torture, execution, or suicide" if he returned to Iran.

According to the court ruling, the judge dismissed this claim, stating that Samani defended the actions of the Ministry of Interior during November 2019 in his interviews, and there is no evidence to suggest that the Iranian government considers him a "traitor."

The judge also emphasized that the public interest of Canada in preventing the country from becoming a "safe haven for oppressors" takes precedence over Samani's claims.
