After Donald Trump confirmed the existence of a backchannel communication between the U.S. and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and both the Iranian government and the IRGC denied it, Al Arabiya reported new details from informed sources regarding the efforts of Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, to establish contact between the U.S. and the IRGC.

Al Arabiya, citing sources close to the presidency of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, reported that Mr. Barzani has held meetings with officials from both Iran and the U.S. in an effort to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington, including two meetings in Baghdad with Ismail Qaani, the commander of the IRGC's Quds Force.

According to Al Arabiya sources, Mr. Barzani began mediating between Iran and the U.S. in early March, just a few days after the start of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.

Dilshad Shahab, spokesperson for the presidency of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, confirmed yesterday in response to a question from BBC Persian that the communication between the U.S. and the IRGC through Mr. Barzani is accurate: "This news has been published from a reliable source, and the names of some individuals have been mentioned as sources in this report. We also have the same information and details; all of it is true, and we confirm it. I cannot provide more information beyond what has been published for now."

The news of these contacts was first reported on Axios's website.

The Axios news site reported, citing informed sources, that the U.S. established contact with the IRGC about a month before signing an agreement with Iran, mediated by Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told reporters yesterday: "The news of a secret meeting between Iran and the U.S. in Erbil is completely fabricated."

Hosseini Mohibi, spokesperson for the IRGC, also reacted to Donald Trump's statements confirming the existence of a backchannel communication between the U.S. and the IRGC, saying: "Trump's lie is merely a fantasy stemming from the delusions and nightmares caused by his defeat and desperation in war."

پس از آنکه دونالد ترامپ کانال ارتباط پشت پرده آمریکا و سپاه پاسداران را تایید و دولت ایران و سپاه آن را تکذیب کردند، شبکه العربیه به نقل از منابع آگاه جزئیات جدیدی را از تلاش‌های نچیروان بارزانی، رئیس‌ اقلیم کردستان عراق، برای برقراری تماس بین آمریکا و سپاه گزارش کرده است.

العربیه به نقل از منابع نزدیک به ریاست اقلیم کردستان عراق گزارش کرده است که آقای بارزانی در تلاش برای کاهش تنش میان تهران و واشنگتن، دیدارهایی با مقام‌های باندپایه ایران و آمریکا داشته است، از جمله دو دیدار در بغداد با اسماعیل قاآنی، فرمانده نیروی قدس سپاه پاسداران.

به گفته منابع العربیه، آقای بارزانی میانجی‌گری میان ایران و آمریکا را از اوایل ماه مارس، یعنی چند روز پس از شروع حملات آمریکا و اسرائیل به ایران شروع کرده بود.

دلشاد شهاب، سخنگوی ریاست اقلیم کردستان عراق، دیروز در پاسخ به پرسش بی‌بی‌سی‌ فارسی، تماس‌ بین آمریکا و سپاه از طریق آقای بارزانی را تایید کرد:
«این خبر از یک جای قابل اعتماد منتشر شده و نام برخی افراد به عنوان منبع در این گزارش مطرح شده، ما هم همین اطلاعات و جزئیات را داریم، همه آنها صحت دارد و ما هم تایید می‌کنیم. من فعلا اطلاعات بیشتری جز آنچه منتشر شده نمی‌توانم بدهم.»
خبر این تماس‌ها نخست در وبسایت اکسیوس گزارش شده بود.

سایت خبری اکسیوس به نقل از منابع آگاه گزارش داده بود که آمریکا حدود یک ماه پیش از امضای تفاهم‌نامه با ایران، با میانجی‌گری نچیروان بارزانی، رئیس‌ اقلیم کردستان عراق، با سپاه پاسداران تماس برقرار کرده است.

اسماعیل بقایی، سخنگوی وزارت خارجه ایران دیرور به خبرنگاران گفت: «خبر برگزاری نشست محرمانه میان ایران و آمریکا در اربیل کاملاً ساختگی است.»

حسین محبی، سخنگوی سپاه، هم در واکنش به اظهارات دونالد ترامپ که وجود کانال ارتباطی پشت پرده میان آمریکا و سپاه پاسداران را تایید کرده بود گفت: «این دروغ ترامپ، صرفاً فانتزی‌هایی است که به خاطر توهمات و کابوس‌های ناشی از شکست و استیصال درجنگ به او دچار شده است.»
