On Wednesday, the French government expelled Niloufar Shadmehri, the cultural attaché of the Iranian embassy in the country.
Hours earlier, the French Foreign Minister had officially announced that, as a reciprocal action, two Iranian embassy staff members would be expelled from France.
The name and position of the second individual to be expelled from France have not yet been announced.
After the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared two former employees of the French embassy in Tehran as undesirable, France also announced reciprocal action against two Iranian diplomats.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry's statement mentioned that, due to "activities contrary to international law, especially the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," the two individuals working at the French embassy were deemed undesirable and will not have the right to return to Iran.
In recent days, it has become clear that these two individuals were staff members of the cultural section of the French embassy and had apparently met with two Iranian graphic designers in connection with a cultural project. These two graphic designers have also been in custody since that time.

دولت فرانسه روز چهارشنبه نیلوفر شادمهری، رایزن فرهنگی سفارت ایران، در این کشور را اخراج کرد.
ساعاتی پیشتر وزیر امور خارجه فرانسه رسما خبر داده بود که به عنوان اقدام متقابل دو وابسته سفارت ایران را از فرانسه اخراج خواهد کرد.
هنوز نام و سمت فرد دوم که از فرانسه اخراج خواهد شد اعلام نشده است.
پس از آن که وزارت خارجۀ ایران در بیانیهای دو تن از کارکنان پیشین سفارت فرانسه در تهران را عنصر نامطلوب اعلام کرد، فرانسه نیز از اقدام متقابل درباره دو دیپلمات ایرانی خبر داد.
در بیانیه وزارت خارجه ایران آمده بود که با توجه به «فعالیتهای خلاف حقوق بینالملل، بهویژه کنوانسیون روابط دیپلماتیک ۱۹۶۱» از سوی دو مامور شاغل در سفارت فرانسه، این دو فرد عنصر نامطلوب شناخته شده و حق بازگشت به ایران را نخواهند داشت.
طی روزهای اخیر مشخص شده که این دو فرد، از کارکنان بخش فرهنگی سفارت فرانسه بودهاند و ظاهراً در ارتباط با پروژهای فرهنگی، با دو گرافیست ایرانی دیدار کرده بودند. این دو گرافیست هم از همان زمان در بازداشت هستند.
