The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, with a veiled warning about the economic conditions in Iranian society, said: "No matter how much military power we have, if the people are hungry and we lack financial circulation, economic growth, and national production, we will not survive."

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, in remarks made on Friday, August 30, in Iraq to individuals identified as "economic activists of Iran and Iraq," described the new U.S. government's decisions to impose severe economic sanctions against Iran as "oppressive," stating: "We must plan to overcome them so that we can prevail over them."

Qalibaf, who was the head of the Iranian negotiating team with the U.S. after the recent war, called for the use of the national currencies of Iran and Iraq in trade exchanges between the two countries, saying: "We can strike at the heart of the U.S. dollar."

رئیس مجلس شورای اسلامی با هشدار تلویحی نسبت به شرایط اقتصادی جامعه ایران گفت: «ما هر چقدر قدرت نظامی داشته باشیم ولی اگر مردم گرسنه باشند و گردش مالی، رشد اقتصادی و تولید ملی نداشته باشیم، دوام نمی‌آوریم».

محمدباقر قالیباف روز جمعه ۳۰ مرداد در اظهاراتی در عراق برای افرادی که «فعالان اقتصادی ایران و عراق» معرفی شده‌اند، با «ظالمانه» خواندن تصمیمات جدید دولت آمریکا برای اعمال تحریم‌های اقتصادی شدید علیه ایران گفت: «باید برای غلبه بر آن‌ها برنامه‌ریزی کنیم تا بتوانیم بر آن‌ها فائق آییم».

قالیباف که رئیس گروه مذاکره‌کننده ایران با آمریکا پس از جنگ اخیر بود، در اظهارات خود خواستار استفاده از پول ملی ایران وعراق در مبادلات تجاری بین دو کشور شد و گفت: «می‌شود به دهان ارز آمریکایی زد».
