The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to the recent U.S. sanctions against Iran by stating that cooperation between Beijing and Tehran is conducted within the framework of international laws and "should not be met with interference or disruption."
Liu Jian, spokesperson for the ministry, said on Tuesday, September 3, that China is closely monitoring developments and will take "all necessary measures" to defend its rights and interests.
He further emphasized that China has consistently expressed its opposition to unilateral U.S. sanctions, deeming them illegal. According to him, economic warfare and maximum pressure "only fuel more tension and conflict."
On Monday, the U.S. imposed sanctions on 60 individuals, entities, and vessels linked to Iran, aiming to cut off the "economic lifeline" of the Islamic Republic.
Scott P. Amey, U.S. Treasury Secretary, said on Monday, September 2, during a press conference about the new pressure campaign against Iran: "Globally, our goal is to cut off all economic arteries that keep this authoritarian regime afloat until Tehran is completely isolated."
China is the main buyer of Iranian oil.

وزارت خارجه چین در واکنش به تحریمهای تازه آمریکا علیه ایران اعلام کرد همکاری پکن و تهران در چارچوب قوانین بینالمللی انجام میشود و «نباید با دخالت یا اختلال روبهرو شود.»
لین جیان، سخنگوی این وزارتخانه، روز سهشنبه سوم شهریور گفت چین تحولات را از نزدیک دنبال میکند و برای دفاع از حقوق و منافع خود «تمام اقدامات لازم» را انجام خواهد داد.
او در ادامه تأکید کرد که چین همواره مخالفت خود با تحریمهای یکجانبه آمریکا را ابراز کرده و آنها را غیرقانونی دانسته است. به گفته او، جنگ اقتصادی و فشار حداکثری «تنها به تنش و درگیری بیشتر دامن میزند».
آمریکا روز دوشنبه تحریمهایی علیه ۶۰ فرد، نهاد و کشتی مرتبط با ایران وضع کرد و هدف آن را قطع «راه نجات اقتصادی» جمهوری اسلامی خواند.
اسکات بسنت، وزیر خزانهداری آمریکا، روز دوشنبه دوم شهریور در یک نشست خبری درباره کارزار جدید فشار علیه ایران گفت: «در سراسر جهان، هدف ما این است که تمامی شریانهای اقتصادی را که این حکومت استبدادی را سرپا نگه میدارند، قطع کنیم تا زمانی که تهران کاملاً تنها بماند.»
چین خریدار اصلی نفت ایران است.
