Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, criticized the statements of Scott Basset, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, regarding new sanctions against Iran by sharing a part of a video from a press conference on the social media platform X.

In this video, a reporter refers to Basset's claim about the beginning of "D-Day" for the economy and asks him why the sanctions are not being implemented immediately. Basset responds, "Why would I want to blow up the global financial system?"

Qalibaf sarcastically pointed out this contradiction in the U.S. Treasury Secretary's remarks, writing: "He first says it's economic D-Day! But five seconds later, he asks why he would want to blow up the global financial system? Sir, this is not Normandy Beach; this is a comedy show, and you've even forgotten your own script!"

محمدباقر قالیباف، رئیس مجلس شورای اسلامی، با انتشار بخشی از ویدیوی نشست خبری اسکات بسنت، وزیر خزانه‌داری آمریکا، در شبکه اجتماعی ایکس، با کنایه از اظهارات او درباره تحریم‌های جدید علیه ایران انتقاد کرد.

در این ویدیو، خبرنگار با اشاره به ادعای بسنت مبنی بر آغاز «روز دی (D-Day) اقتصادی»، از او می‌پرسد چرا تحریم‌ها بلافاصله اعمال نمی‌شوند، و بسنت در پاسخ می‌گوید: «چرا باید بخواهم سیستم مالی جهانی را منفجر کنم؟»

قالیباف با طعنه به این تناقض در سخنان وزیر خزانه‌داری آمریکا نوشت: «او ابتدا می‌گوید روز دی اقتصادی! اما پنج ثانیه بعد می‌گوید چرا باید بخواهم سیستم مالی جهانی را منفجر کنم؟ جناب، اینجا ساحل نورماندی نیست؛ این یک نمایش کمدی است و شما فیلم‌نامه خودتان را هم فراموش کرده‌اید!»
